If I decided to change my oil every 5k miles instead of 10k before the maintenance light turns on, would I just reset/clear it like normal even though theres no maintenance light?

Yes you can reset it early. FYI mine comes on every 5k. I think because there is other maintance items in the schedule.

Light should come on every 5k. It's a service reminder and not just an oil change light. You can reset it though.

You can click one of the links in my signature to see what I've found with 10,000 oil changes.

Good choice. Just can't understand how others worry so much about how someone else spends their money. No motor was every ruined because oil was changed earlier than specified.

The light should blink at startup at 4500 miles since the last reset, then stay lit at 5000 miles since last reset.

If you are going to do 5k changes, let it be your guide.

Your owners manual can verify operation, but AFAIK it's not changed to a 10k cycle.

Self-proclaimed experts have to constantly remind the rest of us of their expertise. Before the internet they suffered in silence, so pity them.

Well, it depends on why someone does something.

We have plenty of folks who are willing to look at evidence and say "I don't care, changing my oil at XXXX miles makes me feel better." For those people I don't think there is any concern.

We also have folks who look at what their granddaddy did and said "well granddaddy did it that way and it's good enough for me" or some other anecdotal evidence. For these folks, I'm just sharing data to help them make their decision.

For myself, I'm just sharing information. For others, how do you know they are or are not? We actually might have a few experts or people that actually have an idea. We just need to look at the information and decide for ourselves. I don't see the problem in everyone having a discussion.
