I bought a 4.5 lb belly section the other day. Can’t wait to try it. I’ll take more pics of this as I’m prepping it.

LOL... never been a problem. When I do huge amounts, like a whole hind quarter from venison, I just dry, vacuum seal in smaller amounts and freeze.

Which Kettle is this one? I am looking for a decent kettle to complement my gas and smoker.

Repurpose is always the best way. Looks like you did a nice job refinish. Congrats.

My mother-in-law left these for me when we bought their house. I thought they turned out pretty good since I used polyurethane in an aerosol can!

weber premium kettle. they used to call it the gold edition with the enclosed ash catcher. the silver edition had the pie plate ash catcher. the above pic isn't mine, but i have the same one. you can get these cheaper than this if you watch for clearance.

I have always really liked the copper colored gold grill, my gold is basic black. I picked up the Red classic Limited Edition and like it even more however it is a couple inches taller which at the end of the day is nicer, for me at least.

I do a fair amount of wood working, always hated finishing though. I also do a lot of older gunstocks. Took me a couple of months and about 12 hand rubbed coats to refinish this 37.

And your poly in a can turned out just as well. I hate you.....

    Well done!

I'm not sure how it turned out so well! 4 heavy coats, one light sand, then two more coats. I've used Tru-Oil on a few stocks before, but the grain in that stock is beautiful!

Min wax is a decent product. I do some furniture restoration and use the DEFT product line. Both are quality products.

Working with a guy to buy a used one on Craigslist for $60. Does not have the temp gauge but I can add that.

you don't want the temp gauge. when grilling foods, i go by feel and ignore it. when smoking things, i use my dual probe because it's way way more accurate than any bimetal thermometer. imho, the most important thing on a weber kettle is the ash catcher. having the closed in ash catcher is a game changer and makes cleanup so much easier.

Just took a 13.3 lb brisket out to thaw. It will hit the pellet pooper this weekend. Question: does the fat cap go up or down? :D
Got a bag of 100% pecan to try, too.
