I have to say that my ditch lights have been the best purchase as far as lighting goes for my truck. I have a set of Flood pattern side shooters by Rigid. I don't have a light bar across my windshield and don't have a need for one. These lights do what I need them too.

As far as ditch lights being mostly a "bro truck" or "instalander" accessory, I do have to agree there seeing as most the ditch lights I see are pointed straight forward or not even hooked up.

Agreed, and SoCal is the land of overbuilt and under-utilized. Different strokes for different folks. I've ran the 'con, and plenty of other trails at night but never saw the need for more than my old D2s and a few rock lights.

I get what the lights are supposed to do, I just don't see it as necessary

Well now your argument changes completely. None of the shit on our trucks is necessary

As far as ditch lights, there are far more bullshit tacoma-bro things you could bolt to your truck. Including but not limited to; roof-mounted hi-lifts, maxtrax, and rotopax.

    Nobody said they were necessary.

Again simple maxtrax analogy. Yes I could get out, turn on the power to my winch, pull cable, wrap tree saver, engage clutch, push button and pull myself out of whatever shit show I'm stuck in. Or I could remove two clips and stuff them under the tires that are spinning and get out with far less effort and less time. Necessary? No. Easy and have value? Yes.

Nobody said ditch lights were necessary. And yes again I agree with you that they have become a social media requirement. But they sure as hell help me with visibility for the terrain I do and my driving preferences. Suffice to say having hit a dear in a piece of shit rental car in the weeeee hours of the morning and spinning off the road and down a 32 foot cliff and landing in the American River...I sure as fuck wished that rental car had ditch lights.

Also for the record, there's not been one time anyone has come up to me and started a conversation and asked about ditch lights. I'd hardly call them a source of "attention."

Eh, my argument hasnt changed, I was saying they arent necessary from the beginning.

Follow up, do you guys run with them on all the time at night, and do you turn them off when other people are driving at you, like high beams?

I only run mine when I don’t have any other traffic on the road. I have my high beams and ditch lights on at the same time watching for big animals.

Here you state "just put them on for attention."

Here you admit value but shift argument towards ditch lights not being a "need."

Your argument is changing. I think you want the lights to not have a purpose whereas they do and now your argument is shifting towards "well thats stupid you have headlights."

Wait...I thought you were the OP where "in the beginning" you said they were stupid and a source for attention. Nothing about unnecessary.

In fact the first time you brought the unnecessary into into this thread was here:
