What psi should i run?

    Chalk and string is how I set the toe on my truck. I have been running 35 all around on my 2010 TRD Sport. 265/70X16, maybe I will do the string thing and see and lower them. We had a 2000 Exploder and didn't run lower tire pressure think 34 it was a 4X4 but only when you pushed the button. It was spooky when making tight turns at speed like taking evasive action on the freeway, think it has some thing to do with the 4X4 suspension/steering that made it feel like the steering was locking up. Fixed it, sold it and bought a 04 Expedition for my wife.

    I'm taking my '17 TRD OR to Big Bend State park this December for a few days. No paved roads. Packed dirt on the "roads", sharp-ish rocks on the 4 wheel only trails. Should I air down my tires? I would like to take 1 spare and a decent air compressor and repair kit, only not two spares. I need room for camping (with daughters) stuff and an extra full size spare would be nice, but I'm not planning on doing any serious off road crawling.
    What would be a good pressure to run the stock 265/16's?

    I spend what some people would say is too much time/effort playing with tire pressures. This is a multi-purpose ongoing experiment. I'm after good tire wear, good gas mileage, the best ride I can get, and the best handling I can muster.

    I've done chalk test. I've spent a great deal of effort measuring wear. And then there's that ol' "butt dyno".

    BTW...running Cooper Discoverer STT PRO, 285/75r16 load range E.

    Chalk test says 33 in front and 32 in rear.

    Gas gauge says 36+

    Handling and ride seem to peak @ 35.

    I shoot for 34 to 35.

    As mentioned STT PROs.....mud tires.

    Last set was on my truck for 40k and sold to someone who got 11k more before they were no longer effective mud tires.

    Current set is at 21k. I'm now on a 5 tire rotation and expect more miles. (20% More hopefully)

    With 265-70-16 Michelin's, I've always found 33 rear/34 front to be the best all around pressure. Maybe a pound more in front than rear seems to be about right.

    A pound or two less if you like softer. A pound or two more if you like the feel of less rolling resistance.

    Definitely, if anything for comfort, it will blow you away how much smoother 20psi is compared to 30psi.

    Stock tires I would say stay above 20psi simply because of the softer sidewall. I used to run 15psi on my E rated tires without issue but I don't think I'd push that far.

    30psi all around I find is the best compromise for me. Half my miles are on unpaved or semi-paved with rocks and potholes backroads, some light mud and sand, the rest on 2-lane pavement but no interstates. KO2's in E rating provide carcass & sidewalls that can handle the lava rock.

    I’m a little confused with tire pressure for my 19 sport. Now have 800 miles and rides fine, but when I bought it the tires had door sticker 29 psi. Last week went to a Christmas party at my dealer for new buyers. When we left the service dept changed tire psi to 34 psi. No complaint with 34, but after many trucks owned why does Tacoma recommend 29 on the door and the dealer apparently thought 29 was too low.

    I've been running 29psi front and rear for ride quality on E load tires. I haven't chalked them yet but might bump to 32f 30r based on what some people chalk testing told them

    My mechanic recommended 35F 30R on Cooper Discoverer ATP 265/70/17. Seems like even wear so far, need to find some chalk though.

    So, switching from the stick P-rated 265/70 R16 tires to LT265/75 R16 E-rated tires. I did the conversion using load charts, and based on the recommended 29F/32R pressures for the stock P tires, the recommended pressure goes to 43F/46R. Seems a bit high, but I am going to start there, do the chalk tests, and adjust.

    I think it's high, too.
    I believe you failed to derate the weight by 1.1 when going from P to LT.

    P265/70/16/111 SL is 2,216 lbs @ 29 psi and 2,326 @ 32 psi.

    Derating P to LT:
    2,216/1.1=2,015
    2,326/1.1=2,115

    LT265/75/16/123(E) is 2,024 lbs @ 38 psi and 2,136 lbs @ 41 psi.

    Are you for certain the OE tire was a P-metric and not a euro-metric? That makes a difference as well.

    A euro-metric 265/70/16/112 SL is 2,061 lbs @ 29 psi and 2,271 @ 32 psi.

    Derating euro-metric to LT:
    2,061/1.1=1,874
    2,227/1.1=2,024

    LT265/75/16/123(E) is 1,910 lbs @ 35 psi and 2,024 lbs at 38 psi.

    The stock Goodyear Kevlar tire should be a euro-metric 265/70/16/112 SL.

    Shit, maths. You are right. So help me out here. Going from stock Goodyear Kevlars to 265/75 16 BFG KO2 E rated. What's the formula? I don't have my spreadsheet in front of me. Trying to use stock recommendation as "home" point.

    Another thing...I am surprised your door sticker says 29 psi front/32 psi rear.
    Unless things changed, the Offroad door sticker should be 30 psi front and rear.

    I swear my 2nd gen said 29F 32R, but I just went and looked and you are right, it says 30 both front and rear. I just assumed it was the same and guess I never even looked.

    Using the Toyo information at https://www.toyotires.com/media/2125/application_of_load_inflation_tables_20170203.pdf.

    I show this:

    (29 psi) 2216/1.11=1996
    (32 psi) 2326/1/11=2095

    So, with maths, that makes (30 psi) = 2029 <-- target

    Based on that, seems like 38 front and rear would be about right? This OCD is dreadful. And I need a new torque wrench.
