About to purchase a set of new tires, and wanted to know what is considered too old for a manufacturing date?

I asked the tire shop to tell me the week/year date on the set of tires and they told me 30-17. So that would mean end of July, 2017.

Being that the mfg date is about one year old, and its been sitting in a warehouse, is that considered too old? Or does this seem to be a normal time frame from mfg to sale/install date?

Any advice on this would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes one year old isn't bad, anything that's over 4 years old don't buy, and ask for newer tires..

I searched and only found this thread.

Isn't it different for each manufacture?

I'm curious because I bought new tires today that were manufactured in 2011. I was concerned.

Isn’t what different for each tire? 2011 is too old in my opinion. In the UK they’re only allowed to use tires that are less than 7 years old, regardless of tread depth.

Discount Tire stores in this area won’t mount a tire over 7 years old or sell one over 3 years old.

5-7 years is considered the life expectancy of a tire. Depending on how and where they are stored until sold probably has a lot to do with how much is matters. Every tire has a code on it that tells you when they were manufactured, If they are a couple of years old when you buy them I wouldn't worry about it too much but 'd want as new as possible. Me? I've never checked the date of manufacture on a set of tires in my entire life and I've never had a problem with a set lasting at "least" 5 years.
