Did you have to run wheel spacers with this setup? I just got my 255/85r16 BFG MT's yesterday and waiting on some factory steelies to get delivered. Your rig pushed me over the edge on going with that setup. Looks great!

Got my 255/85R16 BFG M/T's installed today on a set of 16" Steelies. Super happy with the way it turned out. Now just need to get the lift on!

Hey all- fairly new here. had my taco about 9 months and need to see about getting some new tires (OEM ones are about shot from winter salt and highway driving 800 miles every other weekend). I'm looking at the American Racing Baja rims and would like to run some highway/all season tire compared to an off road/AT tire because I don't go off road more than some back country roads or range roads from time to time. I really like the look of tall skinny tires but know nothing about tires really. Any suggestions for a good highway tire? I want to get the 17" rims.

Thanks for the help! Maybe a 3" lift in the future, but as of right now, stock.

The tall skinny tire is great for off road but if I was mostly Highway, I would maybe go up +1 max and stay with a nice light tire. Most of the skinny size tires are not P-rated but rather E-rated which makes the tire significantly heavier. The
MichelinDefender LTX M/S would be my choice if my truck stayed mostly on pavement and wanted good rain/snow performance.

Got my 255/80/17 ST Maxx Mounted up on my totally stock 2018 TRD sport yesterday. Stock wheels/stock height. No rubbing so far and I doubt it will ever rub. I haven't been able to really stuff them yet but did try in a small ditch and had no issues. Tires are quiet enough for an aggressive AT/MT hybrid tire. I will wait to comment on how smooth they are. I have a little more vibration than expected, but they have 7 miles on them. I plan to drive the truck quite a bit this weekend and I will report back then.

Here it is. The conclusive evidence I searched high and low for STOCK 3rd Gen sport with 255/80 pizza cutters.

They should - it is very similar to the 255/80/17 just 32.1 inches instead of 33 with the same width. The stock wheel is I think 7" which is perfect for skinny tires. Also double check they make that tire in that size. P rated is gonna be lighter than LT which will affect mpg and ride. If you stay on pavement you can get away with a p rated tire.

Thanks Jholc21. I normally stay on pavement. The only time I drive anywhere else at the moment is the range which has dirt roads, but they are graveled. I think it would be fine as I've driven the old nissan juke down there and it was ok.

Anyone running some pretty dramatic offset/backspace with pizza cutters?

I've been running 235/80R17 on 7" 06 Tundra Alloys. Unfortunately, Tundras are already relatively low offset wheels (which look sweet on Tacomas BTW) but as a result, in order to get the stance errr look right, I've gotta push these narrow tires out a bit. I'm using 1.5" spacers for an effective 3.6" backspace (or -20 offset).

My concern is that this puts a lot of stress on the ball joint.

Now, it can't be any worse than guys who run 35's on stock ball joints, but I feel like the wheel pushed out on the hub adds leverage to the ball joint that won't exist, even with a huge tire centered over the hub per stock offset.

    Thoughts?

Appreciate this info as I was wondering if I needed to go to 75 series on these tires to avoid rubbing

Just noticed the weight of these 255/80/17 tires. 58 lbs?? That can not be helpful for gas mileage.

Just looked up Firestone Destination T2 tires in 255/75/17. C rated and at 48 lbs. Think that will be my choice.

You can also get the Cooper discoverer AT3 size 255/75/17 in 39 lbs or the 4s if you're looking for a decent tires that's even lighter.

    Very nice reviews on these.

Yea they are a little heavy but not having to worry about getting flats is why I went with them. Not really sure how bad the gas mileage will be affected. Wasn’t a concern for me. The truck shows 16.5 now and 18 before. The 16.5 isn’t accurate though.

Only thing I will say is I would probably go with the km2s if I could do it over. The St Maxx is smoother, but the noise is basically the same. The km2 is very quiet for a true mt tire.

One thing that is becoming apparent is that while these can be used with stock wheels at stock offsets, using a 255/80R17 tire really limits wheel choices. For example it seems like all the lower offset wheels SCS makes are 8" or wider.

It'd be nice if wheel manufacturers started making 7.5" wide wheels in -20 or so offset.
