Has anyone here replaced control arm bushings themselves

    I'm swapping out UCA's, lower ball joints and shocks so it would kill me to not replace the LCA bushings while I'm in there. However, i hear nightmare stories about attempting this.
    I have an electric impact wrench and will have a ball joint press. Will these two not suffice for removing & installing bushings?

    yep that will get the job done. to get them out, i found the easiest way to do it is jus to burn them out. hit it with a torch and let it burn itself out. just do it outside with a facemask because its guaranteed cancer. the new ones go in real easy with a press. sometimes u have to put a little bit of grease around them so they dont stretch or pinch up. the worst part is the smell of the burning rubber.

    Thats do-able. Does the outer metal sleeve stay in the control arm after you burn them out though? Or did you replace the bushings with one that doesn't have the outer sleeve on it?

    And replace with white line PU bushings. Best upgrade you can do while you have everything apart.

    In the same boat now trying to remove the OEM bushings. Tried the torch and bottle jack method and the bushings still woudn't budge. Guess I need to apply more heat?

    Drill a bunch of holes in the rubber,and pop it out,simple.

    I'll give that a shot this weekend. How did you end up removing the bushing sleeves? Sacrifice a screwdriver to pry it out?

    I just installed those Whiteline bushings in the Amazon link above. They do transmit a bit more vibration into the truck but they are SOLID. The truck drives and handles a good bit better and all the creaks/pops/clicks I had when turning and such are completely gone. My OEM bushings were DONE.

    Scratches, dents, and a lot of miles
    When I did my UCA bushings on my LR UCA's, I just cut the flanged part of the bushing off and then tapped the whole bushing through with a hammer and a chunk of wood.

    Other than that, I would suggest drilling drilling the bushing out.

    What brand of bushings seem to work? I've heard bad things about Moog and whiteline is unneccesary for me. What's the word on Mevotech?

    Haven't tried yet. Will give it a shot tomorrow.

    My plan is to weaken the rubber bushing with a drill bit and burn the crap out of it. It probably will get messy but it is what it is. I'll update the thread when I have some news.
