Dang man! That looks like a million dollars. I wish I would have seen this a month ago. It would have saved me a thousand dollars.

I'm kinda using this process on a set of super corroded 2nd gen rims. Not perfect but good enough for me. Pics are before with just paint stripper to reveal the corrosion and then finished. Using Duplicolor Grqphite wheel paint with a high gloss clear. Super slow process, but worth it. 0625181105.jpg 0625181807.jpg

IMO that looks better than the 16" Pro rims and a close 2nd behind the 17" 4Runner Pro rims that I see on a lot of Tacoma's! Nice work and I appreciate your step by step instructions!

So this looks amazing! How is it holding up? I really want to do this to my sport wheels but have yet to get the courage. I live in Maine where they do salt the roads, what do you think these conditions would do to this treatment? I'd love to buy a set of TRD 17" Pro wheels but I can't justify that cost with a Bilstein 5100 lift and All Terrains as well. If I could get away with painting them black and have them come out this nice I'm all for it.

I've been running the wheels for 6 weeks. They still look as good as the day I shot them after a few washes and brake dust and car washes. I may clean them up and wetsand them a bit to get any imperfections out, but honestly, they still look good so I may not bother.

I say if you are on the fence of getting aftermarket wheels but still really like the stockers, just paint the stockers and see. What does it hurt? They aren't expensive or rare wheels. You can tough them up easily as needed. If you really like them and decide to make it more permanent, get them powdercoated the next time you change out tires.

Daaaamn, that is really impressive. I have been on the fence trying to decide on new rims but I hate spending money on rims. The gloss black really stands out and I bet my lady would approve of a $40 purchase! Definitely hard to bring myself to rattlecan some wheels but OP has a good point about them not being rare or special.

For the haters, here's the wheels after about 7 weeks, after some car washes, offroad and lots of brake dust. No scratches, still look very nice which I expected. These are going to hold up like this probably until I have the tires unmounted and the shop scratches them up and I have to touch them up.

    Awesome!

That's the look I've been wanting...

How many coats did you spray? How many cans did you use? Going to go this route for sure!

I’ve been weighing the options on buying wheels or painting mine ... I used to paint a lot of aircraft parts and that is a great finish just using a spray can. Nice work !!! Preparation makes for a great finish. Dig those tires also... great combo

I would consider it, but frankly the calipers barely poke through the big chunky spokes.
