As mentioned here, position can't be a major problem. Our payloads in bed are 1000+ lbs. If you have that in your bed, nose of truck is going to ride higher. Toyota has had to put that in consideration when designing TSS. Plus many have installed Pro Grille and position of TSS is lower than stock grille, with no recalibration needed. Just a thought, to think about.

I agree, I doubt position is an issue.

BPF (Bullet proof fabricating) where I bought my previous 2015 mesh grill from said they would be coming out with something here in a few weeks, that would be compatible with TSS. I think I’ll hold out a little bit longer and see if companies start catching up to the late release.

I’m struggling to find aftermarket stuff that explicitly states 2018... I’m just going to have to exercise some patience, I guess. Easier said than done!

They are about to come out with 2018s. They are already taking preorders. Also, they have a discount open until april i think.

Picked up my '18 this weekend. Dealer will do a lift and can recalibrate the TSS stuff but you do have a to sign a waiver saying, "it might not work." I turned all the shit off as the radar cruise quit working due to road grime after about 30 miles on the highway.

put a mesh grille from custom car grills with small perf design. Sensor salvaged and mounted back gives me intermittent warnings about PCS off due to dirty sensor but we're in a icy patch of weather up here other wise it works fine

Offers the 18 Grilles they look pretty good not sure if they are shipping yet but they have a picture of one of the grilles on the main page showing the grille W/ the mount.

As far as re-callibrating the sensor I don't know why you would have to a radar does not send out in a single direction like a laser its more like a light. It covers a certain area and receives signal bounce back from that area. So with that being said I would only think that something impeding the signal such as metal would cause problems. I am no pro though that is for sure. I do have a TRD pro though and it has plexiglass and plastic in front of the sensor and that does not seem to bother it. The only time it has ever given me a warning was driving in heavy snow.

It is what's called a phased array millimetre-wave radar. The beam is steered electronically, and you can steer it quite precisely, like 1/10th of a degree. The spatial relationship between the sensor and the principal axes of the vehicle are important. If you want to swap your grille, you really should first find a dealer who is willing to perform the 2 hour procedure to recalibrate the sensor, and don't buy the new grille until you have done that. The procedure involves setting the vehicle up on a totally flat surface, putting up radar reflectors at known points in space, and seeing if the truck perceives the targets to be where they are actually placed. Typically there will be exactly one guy in the shop who has the correct training required to do the job.

This tech can save your yass, or the yass of someone close to you. You paid quite a lot of money for it. Don't mess with it unless you have dealer support to do what you want to do, in a safe way.

Would the mounting be the same if you have the pro model which already has the sensor mounted low in the grille?

The mounting is different but almost no modification would be needed (5 drill holes behind the grill as seen in our video below, and unclip the wiring harness) to install it. The bracket system we made is unique to anything else out there now. We tried to get it at the same angle as the Pro, and the same height but the mounting to get it in that position is completely different.

Below is our video about how it works. The later pages of the thread we have here will outline some additional info: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...h-bezels-2018-pre-order-now-available.394542/

Edit: I forgot to ask for the Toyota lettering color options do you have radiant red instead of the Barcelona red?

To my knowledge, Radiant Red isn't a factory color option for the 2018's, which is why I don't have it listed for that year. We've done Radiant Red lettering before but we only list the color being available for the trucks that would have had the color option (such as a 2001-04 Tacoma). If you wanted the color for something else, such as a 2018, we can do it but ordering it would be something we'd need to do a custom invoice or phone order for.

How do you know there is not a pitch sensor? Also, the transceiver needs to be aligned with the longitudinal axis of the truck in terms of yaw. If it is not perfectly aligned, the truck may think that it will hit the parked car by the side of the road and slam on the brakes, and cause you to be rear ended. What is worse, it may falsely conclude that there will be no collision and fail to react. You will feel awfully stupid that you spent about $1500 on a crash mitigation/avoidance system and defeated its function because you wanted a cool grille made of Chinesium.

In the end, this is a safety-related system. You should not make modifications to it unless you know you are mitigating the hazard caused by misalignment, by having the system's end-to-end function checked by the dealer according to the factory procedure with all the special tooling.

The factory alignment procedure would never be written if the design was such that it was not required, and the tooling would never be sent by Toyota to the dealers. The techs could spend the time fixing cars instead of getting training on how to perform the transceiver alignment.

I am not saying you should never install an aftermarket grille, I am just saying you really should make sure the dealer will verify the end-to-end obstacle detection and emergency braking function afterward.
