There’s certainly nothing wrong with shooting and hunting @ 55 pounds. I have been hunting the last several years @ 52 pounds and shooting out to 60 yards and quite happy with it. What I generally do is start at about 20 yards and then slowly start moving back until I notice the arrow dropping below my aiming point and I will make my 1st pin at that point, so I know what the longest straight line shot is off of the first pin.(Example, I run a ffive pin setup, 1st pin ends up @ 27 yards 2nd pin 35, 40, 50, 60)
I will say, in my experience I have found the more powerful the bow, the louder it is. It’s just the nature of energy.

Thats what the guy at the shop said. I would just like the added FPS and range w/ less drop.

I'll try that out, seems like a good way to do it. I just need a dope chart for arrow drop

Heck, Ted’s been shooting a 50 pound coumpound for probably two decades and swears by it. From one long distance shooter to another, you don’t need any drop chart for shooting bow, you just need to get out there and shoot it. I’m not sure why you’re having a pin adjustment issue? As I’m sure you know the concept is quite basic if you’re shooting low you move the pin down, if you’re shooting high you move the pin up. Unless if there is an alignment issue between your peeps sight and your site box, are you sure your Peepsight isn’t moving?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure there are charts out there for bows and arrows but shooting bow, and I’m sure the rest will agree with me! Is a by the seat of your pants experience. Yes, guns are a very one on one experience but not the same as bows. Something very primal happens when putting stick to string! (even with a coumpound), it’s like a direct connect with our early ancestors.

I've been shooting 56lbs out of my Mathews LX for a number of years and set my pins up very similar to Smug. One thing to keep in mind, while your arrows might be spined properly for 55lbs at your draw length, at 65lbs they might be under spined. You will definitely notice that when you start shooting broadheads. Many shops will convince you to "just screw on a mechanical, like a Rage." to compensate for the issue. Which is only a band aid. Make sure your arrows are spined for your anticipated draw weight of 65lbs. It's almost impossible to be over spined, when shooting with a release. However, it's very easy to be under spined.

    This..

I went by the book on my setup.
    Good for target.
    Screwed on my hunting heads.
    Nope.
Thank god my boy had a practice hunting tip.
Ended up 1 1/2” longer shaft and went to a 350 spine.
Oh the cheapest arrows I could find shoot better than my “expensive” ones.
    Trial and error..
    Gotta do it..
Oh practice with what draw your gonna hunt with.
If not you will be doing a lot of sighting in again.
About 58 pound draw for me.
If you Can’t pull it, can’t hold it, can’t hit it.
A little slower good shot is better..

It’s funny you say that, because in my early days when influenced by egos, I used to shoot 70 pound bows and then one day while sitting in the cold for like 6 hours, I went to draw and I looked like a dog shitting out a BRICK! and could not pull the bow back and missed out on a killer opportunity because of a Male ego!

This is a pretty sweet looking new bow from Hoyt. The Nitrux. I like having new options.

Same thing happened to me. I use to shoot 72# back in the day. A good rule of thumb for me is if I can draw back comfortably while in a sitting position. That is without raising your bow arm while drawing back. I am now at a comfortable 62#. And it does go down as you get older.

Good rule of thumb.... Sit on a stool or chair, feet flat on the ground. Draw your bow straight back. If you can't do it without contortions or pointing skyward, you're over bowed.

A razor sharp 2 blade Magnus Stinger will pass thru a deer no problem even when shot from a 35#, 25" draw bow. Don't get me wrong, I'm an advocate for shooting as heavy a bow that you handle. And if it's currently 40 or 50 Lbs, you're certainly not under bowed.

Saw that. Looks like a nice bow. Will have to check out the harness, as it looks similar to what is on an Elite and not a typical static yoke type that can be adjusted for cam lean.

When I got back into archery, I kept the weight down, so I could focus entirely on my form, not to mention you need to train your muscles. You can't shoot if you're hurt.

I was mostly kidding. The target ive got is just small so ive shot over it a couple times accidentaly while getting them zeroed. More of a learning experience than anything.

Fair enough! I still have lots to learn. I know the arrows i have are set for the bow as it is now, didnt know how much of a difference that would really make. Makes sense though.
Yeah its all set right i just need to get myself up to speed. User error

    So true!

My bow is now maxed out at 57 pounds and I'm pretty comfortable with that weight and I'd have to get another bow to get more weight.

Hey turkey hunters, what broadheads you using for body shots? It's time for me to start deciding on a broad head to use.

I cant say I've successfully killed one with my bow yet. Ive only had a couple shots at one and I missed :anonymous: because last time I shot at one my arrow rest was loose :(, but I used my regular broadhead I use for deer hunting...If you are going for a head shot the Guillotine blade is supposed to be killer.
