Interesting side note is that there are some beautiful trails out the backside of the park out behind the chicken ranch...

My chick ripped some of those back trails on her dirt bike. She said they’re amazing!

Yeah the Lions fire started June 2nd, I've been monitoring it for a while now and it all depends on the wind. For the most part the wind usually blows the smoke south/west but it can change at any moment. The last 3 times I went up recently only 1 of the days the smoke blew into mammoth but since I was camping and already smelt like a campfire id did not bother me. Its fire season so this time of the year is always a gamble up there so maybe ya'll should bring some cheap gas mask just in case.

Only a couple hundred feet because I'm by myself and figured I'd wait and explore it tomorrow with Zac...

I'd def stop by Manzanar and check it out. My GF's grandfather was interned there also. Sweetest man.

And as some others mentioned, lots of awesome fire roads back there too.

Manzanar. Stopped there twice. I think it's important to stop there.

I also read the books "Farewell to Manzanar" and "The Train to Crystal City" (in Texas) which are both about internment camps from people who were interred therein.

What struck me about the place is on the one hand it can be very beautiful if you focus on the backdrop of the Sierras and the quiet solitude. Then you consider the fences, guards, minimal housing and being held there for an undetermined amount of time. Then the isolation feels like it has been turned up to 10. The breeze turns cold or the sun's heat starts beating down on you as you contemplate how the people held there felt & struggled.

So it's a fun time for all.

I'm so stoked for this trip!! :bananadance:

@sdsurfer Do you know yet where you'll be staying on Thursday night in Bishop? I was planning to pull off in A.Hills, but if you know of a good campground, we may just drive through and stay up there.
