So I have a brand new 2018 Tacoma limited. I started hearing a thumping sound in the rear end at low speed. Mainly as I would pull out of a parking spot or the drive way. This sound is consistent with a rotating part and happens at 10-15 mph. After that I can’t really tell because the engine and wind gets to loud. When I brought the truck in for the first service they said it was a known issue and replaced the entire rear end. Well I still have the thumping sound. I really think it is something in the drive train as it will increase the fast the truck moves. Maybe a u joint. Has anyone else had this and know of what the fix is?

Sorry to hear this, you even had the rear end replaced. You’ll drive yourself nuts chasing all the sounds your truck makes. Just pull good maintenance and fix whatever breaks.

On another note, I had a girlfriend that made a thumping sound in her rear end.

Luckily I sprung for the life time power train warranty, 120K bumper to bumper and all services free package. I hope I didn’t get a truck built on a Monday or Friday.

Must be a Texas truck then. If it’s a Mexico one I’d be worried being built before and after cinco de mayo lol

Out of round axle(s). Common problem and Toyota is well aware of it. They changed my drums first, then after another 500 miles the axle.
