Tried calling the dealer a few times to get an update but keep getting the voice mail. But to be fair it's always like that late in the day on a Friday. Headed over there now to see what's going on...you know since I have nothing better to do lol.

They put me in a rental so I've been out and about running some errands to kill time.

Well I get here... " Man we've been slammed all day we haven't had a chance to get to it yet. I have the shop Forman and a senior tech on it first thing in the morning"

Looks like I'm spending the night.

Can't drive home? I know 4 hours is rough to do twice but I'd much rather sleep in my own bed.

If you don't have one already I would HIGHLY recommend you quickly invest in a scan tool or a bluetooth adapter that plugs into your OBD2 port. I use Carista but auto shops sell similar devices normally... Before I'd accept the truck as "fixed" I'd want to take a hard look at timing, misfires, fuel pressure, lambda, O2 sensors, catalyst, etc., to ensure things were back in the "normal" range or else I wouldn't accept their "fix"

just some food for thought. especially given you were hearing grinding noises...

Should we all chip in a few bucks and donate to a beer fund for the Op?

4 hours home then 4 back to the dealer then 4 back home. I'll just spend the night unfortunately. If they can't get it fixed I'm going to push to have it towed home tomorrow.

Took me 45 mins all said an done, that's the least I'd be concerned about. All the injectors direct and mfi will need to be cleaned and or replaced. Injection pump and fuel pump may need to be replaced as Toyota will not want to chance it they'll replace them. Fuel lines should be fine. If it's diesel your looking at 7-8k in repairs. Had a problem with uhaul rental vans getting water in the tank and everything had to be replace. Good luck op

That is 12 hours of driving if my math is correct. Hopefully that gas station will pay for the room I would get, not sure about the beer I would drink however.

Cool? Nope did not replace the gasket, it's more of an o-ring than a gasket. Just put a light film of 0w20 oil on it before re assemble. 2nd plug change I'd recommend changing the o-ring

Not the same. Diesel in gas engine is much cheaper and easier than gas in diesel lol.

I was told that if you put sugar in the tank filled with diesel by mistake all will be OK. Actually is a 22HP gain.

Call a Toyota dealership and price out all the components involved. Then all the labor and see how much it amounts to. I’ll bet I’m close

Yeah, but that's like bumping a car when parking and replacing the whole frame.

After reading this thread, and this is not directed at you @Lawfarin, there are some smart people who buy Tacomas and there are some really ignorant people who buy them. And, many of them posted in this thread..

Good Luck! Sorry this had to happen to Ya. We had a station across the river in Arizona a few weeks back did the same thing. We were gonna go to Phoenix that day, however, last minute we decided Palm Springs so I guess I avoided this one by luck. Anyhow, get some rest rest and God Bless Ya Brother.
