Ok all my gun loving friends

When y’all walk into your various local gun shops? What turns you on or off? Are there things that your LGS does that keeps you coming back even if the price isn’t the best in town? Or what about things a LGS does that makes sure you only go in to handle something before seeking it out elsewhere?

I’m really gonna focus on customer service and trying to spend time BSing with my customers and making sure everyone who comes in feels like we were attentive to their opinions and ideas...I know I’ve had experiences where I’ve been given looks and lectures when I purchase something that isn’t the hot new fad...and don’t want anyone to deal with that

I am also trying to make sure I keep a wide variety of firearms in stock, both new and used

Honestly, the first thing I look for is a friendly greeting. Too many gun shops are clickish and crappy to those they don’t know. Be nice and help everyone, not just the guys and gals you know. Of course, there is also no substitute for knowing your product.

Honestly, a clean, modern, good selection of firearms and accessories.

The shop that I use has blue label, gives discounts to first responders On everything in the store.

    A range.

    And most importantly customer service.

I really like the big LCD monitors they use as a background for the guns, to say the price, specs, etc.

They are all in uniform. Clean cut, professional looking and very polite.

They are a one stop shop that is a pleasant experience.

Look up nexus in Davie Florida. That’s the shop I am talking about

    Nexusshooting.com

They may have their clicks, but they don’t show it when a new customer walks in.

You are usually treated by a greeter who immediately asks you what they can help you with and a very warm welcome.

    Hope this helps.

My biggest gripe about ANYTHING gun related is the absolute shit customer service you get at most all gun stores. You either get the people who don’t give you the time of day or people who act like their livelihood depends on you buying something and try to sell you anything and everything they can without taking the time to find out what you’re looking for or interested in.

Last time I was at my LGS where I have bought a couple rifles before I was ignored when I came in. Found what I wanted and got the attention of a sales guy, he acknowledged me and then diverted to help somebody who just walked in. After that I checked it out, wasted the sales guy's time and left. I bought it elsewhere, I don't plan on going back so I can get ignored again lol

I’m glad my concerns and what I want to accomplish are the same here

Good customer service seems to dwindle with the larger older stores

I’m still building inventory and only have around $10k in it currently but working on building that...unfortunately don’t currently have the time or resources to add a range...trying to keep overhead low until I have built a customer base and the shop can financially support itself

One LGS with a good selection of new and used is plagued by "hang-a-rounders".
Mostly local trap/skeet guys who do nothing but BS with the owner and are constantly looking over your shoulder when you are looking over a firearm and are quick to interject some sort of "expert" comment about any firearm..
This is a real big turnoff to me.

I like that my local gun shop greets me by name when I walk in (of course, I've been a regular customer of his since he first opened). But just a greeting at all is nice, even if they don't know you. Product knowledge is a factor, but I care more about customer service, since I've usually done tons and tons of research before I buy a new gun anyway. I also like that my local shop has a big selection of used out on the racks, since a lot of my collection has been built from bargains I've found on older guns.

Firstly a good attitude. I know its hard to talk to everyone but at least greet them and ask if they need any help. you may have lots of knowledge, just dont try to throw it in the customers face. Yes some customers are idiots and really dont know anything...but being a dick to everyone coming in is a sure ticket for me to turn and leave regardless of what inventory is there.

Other that what everybody else said, organization. A lot of people already know what they want when they walk in. Say they want a Rem 700. Have some sort of way to distinguish where the Remington rifles are so the customer doesn't have to look through the entire rack.

Same with handgun cases. Just about every shop has a bunch of stickers on the case, but they are randomly placed on the glass. Put them in the area where the actual handguns are.

A good website is a must today too, would be cool if you had some type of inventory list on the website.

Customer service is what makes people shop in person compared to online. If you can incorporate the simplicity of online shopping with in person service I think you can go far in the industry.

Never talk shit about any brand or type of firearm. You never know, it might be the customers favorite. Don't even join in if the customer is already talking shit about them. You never know it might be the favorite of a another customer within hearing. I was at a shop and Bersa firearms got brought up. The salesman started talking shit about them. I informed him that they are my, and my wife's favorite handguns. I then laughed and told him that's a great way to loose business. I was cool with it, but most would not have been. Most would never say anything, they would just shop somewhere else.

I have been going into my LGS for over 30 + years. Family owned and operated. What I like about it is NO pressure sales. NO BS trying to get someone to buy something. All the firearms are tagged with two prices one for card and one for $ cash. They all know a lot about what they sell. If I call them I do not have to tell them who I am or ask for someone special they will check inventory and or hold something for anyone. they welcome transfers from anywhere..................I recently went to a Family owned gun store in Alabama and everyone was rude and watched everyone like they were going to steal something. Guns were tagged but turned over so you could not see the price without asking. I go by it all the time but I will not go back inside.

Thank you all for the input

We will be a small outfit for now, fulfilling a need I discovered recently

In the zip code where we set up, there’s really only 1 other viable FFL for transfers from online purchases

Our goal is to have some decent inventory and access to order most anything a customer wants...plus a viable brick and mortar location for someone to transfer stuff...we are set up as a type 1 with SOT so we can handle transfers of suppressors etc

We are set up on gunbroker and are working on being listed as a preferred dealer for Buds

Customer service will always be paramount

We are also going to deal in used guns and offer trade ins for new purchases

We are currently focusing on guns and ammo as inventory and will build accessory inventory as we see the desire/need...not spending a lot on boutique ammo yet

I know I personally like to handle things before I purchase even if I buy online

The good thing for me and my business partners are that all of us are otherwise gainfully employed...we can minimize overhead, and also minimize markup to stay competitive with other larger stores in the area
