My GTW rifle is my Sig 516, GTW shotgun is Mossberg 500, GTW handgun is Sig P229 or Glock 19. Plenty of others that id take to war with me but man sig makes some kick ass stuff.

If i had to pick a more budget minded rifle with me to war hands down it would be my Ruger AR556. This thing is a BEAST of a gun for the $ and has had over 10,000 rounds with ZERO issues that were weapon related (only dead rounds).

Mine too. My father was a WWII vet in the navy. Years ago, the CMP offered Garands to vets as long as they had there DD-214 separation papers. We had to go through the navy to get them, but it was a mighty proud day when Dad and I picked it up at the local UPS receiving center. Shoots flawlessly.

But it will always be my favorite, because after getting Dad's paperwork, a fellow vet at work mentioned that I could get Dad's medals replaced. The following Christmas I made a shadow box out of cherry wood, arranged Dad's medals, and added in some pins and patches related to his time of service. I wrote Dad a letter to the effect that heroes come in many forms but it is something special when yours is also your dad. The old man was one tough bird, but that Christmas Eve, his chin was quivering more than I have ever seen it before. Dad passed in 2009 and the shadow box is now with me. I walk past it daily and am reminded of him.

My old rifle was one of my Favorites, MOA Extreme sporter 300 RUM. Bad mother, It killed 7 elk and 2 deer in 2 years with confirmed kills out past 1200..

    Green monster.jpg

Sold it and this one built by Precise rifle solutions out of Redmond Oregon. 300 Norma custom.

I shot a 2" group at 775 with it and killed a bull last week at 400 with it. Also a bad MF.

My favorites are my Springfield M1A Loaded, and my AR 6.5 Grendel. Both are good out to 1125 yards shooting 123 SMK's in the Grendel and 178SMK's in the Springfield with my own loads. The Grendel has a slight edge in accuracy. The M1A is stock, Fulton DMR scope mount and 6-24x58mm Millett scope. Grendel is a Mega upper/lower, Odin Works 20" barrel and BCG, Geissele rail, Geissele 2 stage DMR trigger, 6-24x50 Vortex HS-T scope and other stuff.

I've shot a lot of rifles over the years - especially military and MILSURPS. While I have really enjoyed shooting ARs of late, my all time favorite is still the M1 Garand. I own two at this point - one is in a display case in my den, the other my range rifle.

    Garands 1.jpg

The shooter is a '44 Springfield that is a tack driver. My wife caught this pic when I was shooting on our small range here at the house. The last shell casing can be seen ejecting to the front and the en bloc to the rear. PING!!!

    Ping.jpg

The Garand in the display case is a place holder for US M1 Garand Springfield Armory Sn 2860035. That's the rifle that my Dad is holding in this picture.

    Dad - Large.jpg

I know because I have the scorebook that you can see in his left breast pocket. My Dad enlisted in the Marines in May 1946. He went to Parris Island and in July scored as high shooter in his platoon. This picture along with a press announcement was sent to our hometown newspaper, where my grandmother was a proofreader. I have the original picture, the press release, his scorebook and 2 rounds that are headstamped 1946 in the display case.

    Display 1.jpg

I'll keep looking for that Garand - probably will never find it but I keep looking.

    I'd love to score a Springfield M1A Scout with a wood stock...someday.

These are what I shoot most. One on the left was traded off, never did like an AR pistol.

Probably my uncle's early-sixties Marlin 39 Mountie. 20" barrel, straight (walnut) stock, lever action. Wonderful heft and balance, very accurate. The first .22 rifle I shot, at age 14.
