Yep, that’s why I’d go 60 outers if I ever redid things. Problem is that my axle has never really given me a reason to be looking to build anything else. I think I’d honestly turbo before I went for a new front axle.

I’m not a fan of king pins at all.

I'm wondering about the strength claims though. Seeing a lot of 14 bolt centers with kingpin outers

I’ve seen a few broken on the trails around here. I haven’t seen 14 bolt centers though w/ king pin outers.

I think the reason for 14 bolt centers and kingpin outers is you can get aftermarket kingpins C’s and knuckles. The super 60 stuff is bigger and beefier than kingpin, check out post 25 of this thread for a comparison photo:

Anybody who has replaced kingpins in a kingpin axle doesn’t
Curious what your limiting factor on turning radius is, is it the axle or shafts binding or is it tires hitting frame? Toyota mini knuckles can turn about 36-37 degrees before the felts hit. D60 stuff is around 32-38 degrees depending on the shafts without clearancing the ears. Clearancing or RCVs required to get more than that.

Those are bs numbers on the totyota turning radius. The limitng factor is the closed knuckle design of the Toyota axles. An open knuckle design will always turn sharper. Limiting factor was the knuckle wipers jamming into the weld bead around the tube when I was running no steering stops and grinding the knuckle ball guessets back. I now have steering stops and they are setup so nothing's hitting so I don't obliterate my sprial cable again.

Definitely. If we’re shooting for the best I’m calling ecgs and getting a steering 14 bolt

A steering 14 bolt is not a drop out high pinion 14 bolt with axle tech portals.

Hey guys, I hope I dont get roasted too bad, I just bought a 2003 2.7 5spd with a trail gear sas, everything is fine with the truck except the steering is pretty bad, I've never been in a sas vehicle before but is that normal? Has a trail gear ifs box and axle, the guy didnt say much of what else, it has almost a quarter turn each way before the truck moves and likes to drive with the wheel to the left, but drives straight and doesnt pull so not alignment, really not sure what it is, my power steering pump moves a little while turning the wheel

    Leafs or links?

Probably a steering box with a little slop in it. Not a big deal. Put an 1/8” of a turn on the adjuster if you want to snug it up. If you’re on leafs with not brand new bushings, the axle will move a little side to side under the truck when you steer and make it feel a little sloppy too.

Just adjust your draglink to center the wheel. 37’s are fine like Supra said.

Heres a tech question. Still want my atlas and the time is coming close but need a 4wd transmission. After some searching on pirate and talking to advance adapters the aw4 from jeep Cherokees are the same transmission as the a340s. Whos swapped one or knows someone who has put one behind a Toyota motor (specifically the 3.4l or 3.0) and what is needed for the swap. Ive read both where the transmission just bolts right up with the aw4 bell housing and torque converter and everything else while others have said you need to swap bell housings and tc or flex plates. And others say to swap the oil pan and pickup tube as well. Any one have any info on this?

I think going with the aw4 is the direction I want to go just because of availability. Tons of them for sale in town and at the local junkyard and would be easy to get the adapter for an atlas as well.

Tire looks like it rubs the steering box too, hits the front bumper, u bolts aren't trimmed, suppose to have 14" shocks has 12, every single leaf pack is funky lol might have made a mistake buying as a daily
