I finished up my ceramic process the other day on my new off road and I’m really happy with the result. I bought the Adams ceramic kit for my Camaro and had plenty left for the taco too. I dig detailing, here was my process:

    • Iron X because the truck was new and rode the train to California from Texas.
    • Adams strip wash
    • Nanoskin clay mitt
    • The paint was actually in pretty good shape so I did a one step correction with Meguiars 205 polish with a white lake country pad and porter cable da
    • The Adams ceramic kit has coating prep spray which is basically an alcohol wipe to remove the polishing oils
    • Adams ceramic coat
    • Ceramic boost 12 hours later, that’s in the kit too. It makes the paint really slick and adds shine
    • I got the Adams trim restorer for a friends Jeep I detailed and used it on the fenders, they look good!
I did it over a couple of days, it was a fun project for me!

The Camaro which I coated five months ago. I won’t ever own a car and not coat it again, it makes the maintenance on it so freaking easy!

Looks awesome! What was the level of difficulty, or experience needed? I am a weekend warrior detailer, I have a porter Cable dual action but have not used it yet.

Also interested in difficulty vs the "average" seal/wax treatment. and cost?

It’s not terribly difficult. The Adams kit I bought was like $120 on sale. There’s investment in all the other stuff though. A da polisher, polish, pads, decent towels, it adds up. I learned through YouTube and just going for it. I watched the junkman series on beginning polishing and it’s pretty easy. He uses a very mild, non-aggressive approach which takes longer but guarantees you’re not gonna screw up your paint. He also tells you exactly what to buy to start out. Once you figure it out and get the hang of it, you can start expanding your process.

Sealants and waxes are a good way to go too, they just don’t have the longevity and protection of a coating. The ‘magic’ of a coating comes from all the stuff you have to do before to get the paint prepped. If you don’t enjoy detailing, a good sealant or wax is a solid choice.

Looks great man, does Adam's have a time recommendation for it? Everything I've seen/read from cQuartz guarantees about 5 years of coverage before another coating might be needed.

No, they don’t give one. I think they mention 2-3 years, if that long. The Adams coating is a different hardness than cQuartz. It’s 7h not 9h, the trade off is it’s easier to apply and work with which is why I chose it.

Ah, that makes sense. I'm still on the fence about whether or not I want to do coatings, Collinite and a fresh layer of carnauba just works so well for me.

Great to hear you're liking it!

A friend of mine details cars on the side but is the best I know. I only use Adams products with the exception of 303 Protectant on my tires and bed sides. He strictly uses Croftgate USA. I keep wanting to try the Croftgate due to his showcase and high end cars he details. A complete detail including ceramic from his is $1500 and he has a waiting list!!!! I’d never pay that but he has a list of people who do!

CQuartz consumer is only 2 years. CQuartz professional line had longer durability.

Great! Just spent four days camping in Tahoe and the dirt washes right off, a quick dry and the truck looks really good. My other car is coming up on a year with it on and I have the same report for it. Still cleans up really easily. I’m satisfied and definitely recommend it.

Coating is really a game changer. I used mckees on mine and spray with blackfire sio2 once or twice a month after washes and the finish is slick as hell and pretty much fully cleans with a ph balanced soap and foam gun wash and it dries itself almost 80%

I’m using the Adam’s H2O Gloss and Guard right now and am extremely happy with it. It’s a polymer sealant that is very easy to use for those not confident enough to try a ceramic. I’m getting around 6 months between applications.
That being said, when this bottle is empty I’m jumping on the ceramic wagon!

Do you have to strip your wax off before applying the ceramic coating? And after its applied there’s no need for any other product like wax?

I've had my last 3 Tacos coated in Ceramic Pro, silver package which is 9H layer followed by light layer (5 year warranty), agreed, as long as you do an annual booster/inspection coat, it lasts and makes bi weekly washing a breeze.
