Hell yea man, that's good stuff. Helped couple peeps in co install it in the whole cab

 

This is it for now.. Not pretty but will be good until I feel like taking the carpet out.

 

Replaced the Parking brake cables on both sides and reaction plate on passenger side.

Now I need some "backing plate hole covers" what for keeping the shmoo out

 

Did some playing/relocating with my CB antenna and nothing changed.. The cb static still buzzes to the thumps of the bass.. I thought it was the routing of the antenna cable (on the same side of the truck as my amp, but definitely not too close to it) or the location of the antenna itself right behind the wall where my sub is.

No change:

• Pulling the cable out of the truck completely with the antenna in the same location
• Moving the antenna to the front of the truck with the cable outside the truck
• Powering the radio from a secondary battery seperate from the trucks electrical system

My next thoughts are that the amp is extremely RF dirty and is just flooding the cab or the extension I made for the mic is not shielded enough.

Could be also getting some other electrical noises interfering with the signal. What about trying grounding the engine, frame, and body more/better. I had a car stereo that adding more and bigger grounds helped get rid of electrical noise.

 

I isolated the power to the radio and got the same noise. I probably need to ground my amp straight to the battery, instead of the seat bolt.. I need to find some cable to test that. It definitely seems as though the noise is coming through the antenna cable, even when it's not grounded to the truck and powered off a 2nd battery.

 

From some of what I've seen electrical noise can be tricky to trace down, but I think you're on the right track. I know really good stereo installers have some pretty trick tools to find it and then can isolate and fix it.

seems i've seen some felt "seals" that edge the backing plate to the drum on some older equipment i've worked on, great for dust, not so much mud soup

 

I bet its your ground for the amp being a body bolt. If you take a cable to the battery, it should clear up your CB quite a bit because they are both using the body/chassis as a ground conduit right now.

Oddly enough 7.3 guys have similar issues with their cam position sensor signal when you add amps and LED lights without a choke or direct ground.

 

That's what I'm working on now, still not convinced that will solve it because it's a signal problem not a power kind of static problem... I went for the easy route not thinking it would be an issue. I'm also rerouting the rca cables further away from anything cb related, mainly my mic and extension.

Debating if I want to rinse off my truck and reinstall my CB antenna.. And do I put it back in the same place since I moved the other wires.. I guess I could just hook it up outside the truck again and see if I get the same bass/static I was getting before....

 

So clean under your console. I spent at least an hr cleaning all the plastics when I had mine apart. Need to clean under it as well 13 yrs of nasty is still under there.
