Couple of methods here. Some run it a bit to warm the oil up and get it to flow faster. Personally, I do it cold so all the oil is in the pan and not up in the valve train/heads oozing back. Since we don't get too cold this works for me. If we were talking freezing or below, I might warm it up a bit, but with 0 weight oil, I think it flows fine there to.

Viscosity is much better around 100 degrees or so as the oil drains more completely, and doesn't burn you when the inevitable happens. Cold takes longer to get a good drain.

Then again, when it's 100 outside...no need to start the engine, just park in the sun.

 

Even with colder temps, I put the drain pan under the truck, pull the plug, and come back 20 or 30 minutes later. I've done oil changes like that for 45 years. Never had an issue. Be sure to put a water bottle or something similar under the drain hole on the oil filter base....Oil will run out the drain into the bottle. saves a mess.

About to order some Dakar’s Getting tired of spending money . $1500 extras during frame swap $1200 to have camper awning repair and new skylight in bathroom and drop bar for weight Distribition hitch that I now do not need until I get the new springs because after frame swap truck sits low in the ass end it never ends . I ordered the part for the hitch before my frame swap because my camper was nose high when hooked up I will need it anyway after Dakar install so .......
