Truck got broken into AGAIN ...

They slim jimmed (or whatever the modern equivalent technique is) my drivers side door to get in.

Are there any critical things inside the door that could have been damaged that I should inspect? The power windows and doorlocks seem to work fine, as does the speaker on that side.

Also, for whatever naive reason I assumed that my truck came with a factory alarm system (it didn't) ... who would have thunk that a $32K truck doesn't come standard with an alarm?

So what alarms should I look at to get for my truck? I've been slim jimmed once and have had windows smashed twice....

As far as alarms go, I've been very happy with my Viper 5901. Any of the DEI brand (Viper, Python, Clifford) will be very high quality and have great range (1 mile) on their later models.

The downside about alarms is although they make a lot of noise, they really wont stop anyone. So, if you're parked in a remote location with out much traffic, it really wont do much good.

 

On the bright side, someone must really like your truck

 

Definitely go with Viper, just get it installed by a reputable place. Some place that does it all the time. My bro got a Viper security system with remote start and had Best Buy do the install. They screwed everything up. When the alarm goes off the key fab tells him his trunk is open. To say the least it was one messed up half assed job that he paid good money for.

I've heard good things about Viper alarms. I plan to get one myself pretty soon.

 

The Viper Key Fab alerts you if you are within a mile that your vehicle is being broken into. there are different setups you can do. Door, tilt sensor, glass break sensor, All kinds of things.

 

Are they trying to hotwire it? Or are they after your stereo?

There is this: http://www.theautobolt.com/ to force them to crawl in the window instead of opening the doors. It would make it a huge hassle to try and steal the truck if they have to crawl through a broken window. Won't keep them from smashing your windows though. I suppose window tint might make it more of a hassle to them.

 

Window tint quiets the shattering windows. and keeps it from going all over the place.

But seriously is there a really nice HU or something in the truck that they are going after? Might be worth investing in one with a removeable face or something.

I had an idea a while back to install a flush mounted blinking red led up by the defrost vent. You can pick one up at Radioshack for $2. Makes it really clear that there is a security system -even if you are just bluffing.

Man I think I'd move to some where else. I've lived in the same area 32 years and have never been broken in to.

 

Id get a blue flashing light not the red. Blue looks like a viper system. Just a thought. If your gonna bluff why not bluff big.

 

I ended up getting a Clifford alarm this week. Pretty basic system -- just has the door and hood sensors, and an add-on glass break sensor. No tilt/shake sensor or outside proximity sensor or anything fancy like that.

I have a factory JBL head unit, so they are probably not after that, lol. I think they are just after the stuff that I have been stupid enough to leave in plain view like ipod, cd's, sunglasses, etc. My own damn fault, really.

Glad they didn't go after my sub/amp behind my back seat -- if they had taken that, then I would have been SERIOUSLY pissed.
