    Hey all,

I found a good deal on a used canopy in my area. The guy says it was part of his work truck and taking off and on the ladders over the years scratched up the paint. Is there anything to be worried about for these scratches? If they are too deep and water got into the fiberglass could that cause issues? Should I pass on it or could it be fixed (not too worried about aesthetic)?

    Thanks!

Jeez, what a slackass. If you're too lazy to lift the ladder up a $10 strip of 3M protective film would have prevented that mess. I'd probably check around the bolt holes for the tracks to make sure they're in decent shape as well since it looks like he just banged stuff around up there. Anyways, it depends on how deep they are. Most shells are laid up using a chopper gun, in theory it should all be saturated with resin but that doesn't always happen and if you've got exposed fibers then water can get in. If none of the scratches are deep and it doesn't look like you've got water intrusion then you can re-gel coat it and repaint.
