@NOLAMedic, ADS coilovers will allow you to get a true 3" of lift. I have them and TC uppers and am running 35's with no rubbing whatsoever. I did have to do a big CMC and beat the pinch weld flat.

Having taken a few shortcuts on some other vehicles and having to fix them later, as I consider how to approach a similar mild lift, I won't do it without replacement upper control arms.

    Oahu, Hi
Really? On Headstrong's website its says 0-3.5" of lift. Maybe pertaining to 2nd gens? Any how your truck looks killer btw.

I’m already running pizza cutter 33’s on stock suspension. Why would I have To do a CMC?

Opinions vary and if you read all these threads long enough you’ll go crazy trying to decide. Fox,King,Icon and OME all make great products. Each have pros and cons. Based on your comments, I’d suggest going with aftermarket UCA and sticking with your 255/85/16. IMO for your needs 34” aren’t much bang for your buck. Regardless of what set up you choose, I suggest purchasing from headstrong. Good people over there that treat you right.

No, you still the same limit, you just get extra down travel that you lost by lifting it up at rest on the CO range. Has nothing to do with ride height.

You can set it up like this. It is advertised as that. From geometry standpoint and conversations directly with fox, 2" on a 3rd gen with ext, give you the the best usable range both ways in the stroke of the shock

I still think some manufacturers are confused. I spoke with ADS at length before ordering my coilovers and they understand the whole 2” on the 3rd gens vs 3” on the 2nd gens thing. However, a 2” lift on a 3rd is simply a 2” lift no matter how you look at it. The frames and suspension is almost identical in appearance but there are some minor changes on the 3rd gen that put it 1” taller than the 2nd gens. I used stock front suspension off of my 2nd gen and it was in fact 1” lower than the stock 3rd gen suspension. What gives the 3rd gen the extra inch is the higher spring rate stock coils and the stock coils are 1/2” longer than stock 2nd gen coils and the coil buckets I believe are mounted a tad bit lower on the frame. The general consensus when the 3rd gens came out was that 2.5” was the most lift that could be achieved and this is untrue due to people just not being informed or testing properly. ADS did test properly and they had better info than King or Radflo could give me. I didn’t even bother with Fox or Icon as I’ve had poor experiences with both on previous Tacoma’s. I lifted my 16 TRD OR to a true 3” with the ADS Coilovers And 700 pound springs (I measured stock height and post install height) and have been running this way for almost a year now with no adverse affects.

Fair enough. I haven't talked with ADS or king but I'd trust their input as well. Real world data is always hard to come by. It's not like users on here are diving under for their CV angle and I monitoring time spend spinning at extreme angles and the joint is always specific to the mfg of the UCA.

Also means I can get a little more room when the 285s go in ;)

Can't wait to put the mock shock on and have away again on this truck . My 2nd gen was murder scene. Haha

I’m running 35’s on 3” with TC uppers and a big CMC. No rubbing except some minor rub at full lock when completely stuffed, but I think I resolved that with extending my bump stops 1/2”.

You're not helping. I'm currently on the fence of going straight to 35s. 100% of me wants to. The other side is saying pick up a salvage yard 2nd gen a few years from now and make that Into a designated trail rig.

1st world problems right? Benefits of being on manditory OT as a welder for over a year.

I was considering the same thing but I have been so impressed with the 3rd gen I decided to just build this one. I’m getting ready to SAS to Dana 60 Superduty axles and put 40’s on it.

I just did the Dakar HD leaf springs and 5100's in the rear and gained Just under 4" on my truck in the rear. Went from 35 3/4" pre to 39 5/8" post. Now just have to wait on the stock tires to wear so I can buy new rubber. I gained 3" in the front with OME 888's and 5100's also.

My problem is that I drive to the ability that the truck is built to. So keeping it somewhat modest is kind of a check and balance for me at times.

Being 50 miles from the closest anything in Maine is a long walk . Haha. We normally don't wheel alone, but we do travel alone all the time for camping and fishing. But sometimes when you get out there and the roads washed out but not technically closed....

That's the problem. Last trip was 3 cars in 50 miles. One was a park ranger. The other was an E-350 with MTs on it pulling about 6 white water rafts. Haha. There are no other cars haha
