Just read this Auto Blog review in the 3rd gen...what do you all think?
Seems to me like they’re bashing Toyota a bit but they also hit on some good points in regards to drivetrain

The best line they put in the entire article..... “But hey, if all you want is a good-looking truck with a high resale value and likely solid reliability, then the Tacoma will be fine for you.”.....enough said haha

I really don't get these auto reviewers.

Why the fuck do they care SO much about apple carplay? And then about the handling, obviously none of them have ever driven a 1-ton because the taco is a go cart compared to other trucks.

I can't speak to their criticisms of the v6/auto as I have neither.

Also confused about why people feel the need for smartphone integration in the car. The only two things I can think of using that for, which are navigation and audio passthrough, I simply don't need, because the truck has navigation, and bluetooth exists.

At the end of the day though, it's just another bunch of loons hating on third gens cause they expect trucks to drive like cars for some reason. And reading that none of them took the truck off pavement tells me about as much as I need to know regarding the effort of their reviews.

Here, I did a Hollywood movie style review edit....

"The interior is attractive...a good-looking truck with a high resale value and likely solid reliability...one of the best-looking midsize pickups on the market...I also found the acceleration to be good on this truck...I dig the exterior design...rugged and sporty and far more handsome than most....of course it's excellent off-road..."

LOL, after reading that I really want to go out a drive the AT and a OR model. Man the sport MT is night and day over the twins in terms of fun and handling.

EDIT: Never mind, the article is 3 years old and the morons had a ACLB according to the pics. Delete this garbage

It'd be funny to review cars with how some of us use our trucks.

"We test drove the Hyundai Elantra today, it was roomy, comfortable and had Apple carplay. However when we went to pick up firewood we couldn't even fit 1/4 cord, and with what we did fit the bumper was dragging. Later when driving up the trail to the cabin, it's dreadful ground clearance and street tires meant we didn't make it 30 yards before getting hopelessly stuck. Due to this we think it's a terrible vehicle and recommend you look elsewhere."

"The fender space was simply awful. Fitting 35s required removing nearly all of the engine, which had a large negative impact on the bottom end. Even in 'L' the Elantra proved incapable of progressing up slight rocky inclines, and small scuffs that would result in good campfire stories in any other truck instead resulted in entire crumple zones falling off the vehicle. Steer clear of this one- something you surely cannot do without rubbing in this car"

    Exactly.

My wife's suburban has Carplay and Android Auto (we both have Androids) and we both hate the interface. It takes away your phone functionality. You either get Android Auto or your phone, not both. If you want Pandora or iHeartRadio (or really any other app), you have to plug your phone into the USB outlet or use the Android Auto app to access all of the other apps. My wife never uses it, other than having Bluetooth hooked up to the headunit for message/phone purposes only.

I like Entune better. I love being able to just tap the "Pandora" app and have Pandora come on while having full access to my phone, if needed. I love that I can use Entune's integrated navigation or use my phone to plug-in an address and have my phone give me directions through via Bluetooth (without affecting whatever I'm doing on Entune).

I didn't test the GMs or the Frontier when looking. Maybe I should have, or not. I have no regrets. That said, this article is slamming the entire Taco range based on one model that is rarely purchased.

Also, most reviews state the opposite when comparing to the GM twins. More power on paper, but less feel on the road.

I suppose in comparisson to old school Toyota’s you come to expect that kind of reliability in the new models. One may argue it simply isn’t there anymore, maybe true and potentially due to the fast pace of new technology and keeping up with consumer wants vs needs. You think about how many more computers systems or gadgets a 2018 Tacoma has over a 1st gen....more parts and crap to fail.
I’m not brand loyal(for now haha) but I would still take a Toyota over a domestic any day in terms of reliability

Don't kill me.... I have Carplay in my 16 Canyon. Carplay is neat for a lot of reasons and especially for those who didn't op to buy Navigation - they can pull up mapping on Carplay and navigate thru Carplay.

You don't need Carplay to play music...... If you're connected via bluetooth, you can play whatever music apps you have on your phone including Pandora, iheartradio, Amazon music, spotify, anything. And, you still have full access to the phone too.
