Seeking advice on Hellwig rear helper springs

TACOMA guy with very little mechanical skills seeking advice….
17 DCLB sport - I have added maybe 600 pounds by adding a sleeping platform, camping drawer, roof rack, 12 gal of water on rack and camping supplies. This "helper" was suggested by a local shop. Any thoughts/suggestions?

this has been recommended on the forum. i might do these, my truck was bottoming out with about 450LB of tile and thin set in the bed.

Do yourself a favor and do it right add heavier springs...second option would be to throw your money away and hack it as suggested by local shop...watch them fumble about and fuck it all up!

 

Depends on your budget. If you are looking for help when carrying (non permanent) loads & towing, then helper springs, air bags, bumpstop (ie sumo) helpers are all options, with different pros and cons. If you are looking for help to carry permanent loads (sounds like you are), then there is no substitute for changing the spring pack for a correctly sized set for the increase load, nothing else will be as good.

 

Don’t do it, I put the Helwigs on my 1st Gen and they sucked. They shouldn’t really be called helper springs, because they didn’t help. Makes the leaf pack stiff as shit and rides like hell.

The cheapest solution is sumo springs the more expensive solution is a heavy duty leaf pack

 

Thanks for the info - will not get Hellwigs and will look into getting new Hd springs.
