Eh, we did about 15 miles and was only about half way into Baxter. The sites I saw were right off the road.

I want to say that the Chimney Pond campsites are about 3 to 4 miles from the parking lot on the east side of the hill.

Oh for sure. There's tons of woods camping out there. I just know there's at least 2 safari style lots right on the east side that I drove by that are right on the access road

Heading up the week of Labor Day: Camping in Acadia till Thursday, Hotel for a night in Bar Harbor, then heading north & west to explore the logging/dirt roads while working our way home. So leave Acadia and head towards Baxter, finding a campsite somewhere around or to the west of Baxter, explore more while moving west, either crash at my parents condo in Bethel/Newry or another campsite north of there, then coming south through the white mountains on the was home.
A lot of route planning needs to get started & done but I'm antsy already

So you gonna start a new thread for this VT mine trip? Should I? Maybe we can get some guys who have done it (@bajatacoguy :anonymous:) to show us around. And I'm sure some of the other people in the New England thread would be down.

I would love to start a thread and would really like to go but it all depends on when thats why im afraid to host a group exploration and be like haha sorry cant even go :( I got my last year of college coming up around september 5th or something like that so it all depends on what the thread decides on. Whoever makes the thread makes it doesnt matter to me i just wouldnt wanna let yall down yanno. Im already camping in NH 16th-20th in august and i can already tell my boss is gonna be like dude reallyyyyy. How soon does everyone wanna attempt this trip?

I feel you there. I already know its gonna be like herding cats haha. Ill make a thread Monday next week and get a feel for what people think. Off the top of my head was thinking the last weekend of Aug 25/26. But mid to late Sept would be cool too.

Just a one night Sat/Sun trip is probably feasible for most of us already in NE, but bouncing out of work /school a bit early Fri night would allow more time for trails Sat.

Everyone can chime in on what they think but i would personally prefer the september times. Spaces out my times off from work and school. A weekend trip sounds good to me, get there friday night to a motel i assume since arent most campgrounds closed after september? But yah then after that its off to explore vermont!

I thought most/all baxter trails were off limits to vehicles? Or are you talking about hiking?

There's some big logging roads and other stuff in that area that can be driven. Probably what that map focuses on, but I'm not for sure

I know what's getting added to my Amazon cart now, between those and some delorme/Garmin maps should be good help

Definitely could since a simple weekend trip easier than a longer one. September is a lot more open for me compared to August. Campsites should still be open I think getting into October is when it can get dicey
