I would be a nuclear a$$hole if a dealer charged me to install a new clean perfect part when they had to install the old rusty leaking part anyhow. Consider struts and rear absorbers etc.

I would expect to pay for work outside the swap envelope. For example I will be replacing my very very rusted class 4 hitch with a nice clean used one. I’ll pay for that.

But for new struts and stainless steel flexible brake lines, NFW!

Charging for non OEM parts installation typical now?

The hitch is very easy to change after everything has been off and on. Save some money and do it yourself.
You get new brake lines with the frame. They will NOT install non OEM brake parts

I've been following this and other 'frame replacement' threads for a long time, and the impression I get is that things vary considerably by dealership. I don't know that there's any clear policy across all dealerships.

My dealership said brake parts. I know they have installed other non-OEM parts.

Kinda sad - all those good times! Mine old frame is probably on a pile like that. Those frames had their adventures, good and maybe not so good. Now they're off to the Big Melt, to be born again as ???

So after six weeks Toyota finally called me saying my truck was done. I attempted to contact the service manager multiple times previously in regard to upgrading some parts, particularly my muffler which had a hole in it that I was positive about. I never heard a peep from them. I asked if they addressed the muffler issue, they said they will get back with me. Called back and said yeah your muffler has a hole in it, that will be $700 dollars.

They put my truck back together with a perforated muffler. Unbelievable. Not only is this ignorant It's probably dangerous as exhaust fumes are more than likely leaking in to the cabin. I called corporate and blew my stack.

Dealer never tightened my carrier bearing bolts . Drove 90 miles home and they had to come to my house to put 2 new bolts in . Thank god I made it home ,had a small vibe in the seat that’s gone now . Also complained about leaf springs and the dealer is going to install my Dakar’s no labor (free of charge)

I may be in for a doosie on mine. Dealer called to let me know frame was in. I start to inquire about the process as far as what is included with the new frame and told them what new parts I was wanting to put back on the truck instead of the old ones when reassembling. Was told to put my concerns in an email and send over so service writer can check with techs and they'd get back to me. Email went out to them early Friday morning with no response as of yet. I want to know specifically what will happen with the truck as it is repaired. They seem like they are in a big hurry to get the truck in and tear it apart. I will not land myself in a mechanics lien situation with this, like others have.

If this dealer starts to give me shit or what I feel is the runaround, I am going to try and have another dealer perform the swap. Dunno how feasible this is as the frame is sitting at aforementioned dealer already, with the parts kit.

Truck is in good order. Only thing I think they might be able to try and get over on are the calipers, specifically bleeders...they may be seized. Other than that and one bad swabar end link, there should be no drivetrain "issues" to arise.

I have figured out that my only real leverage is the ten grand that they get to Bill Toyota for the swap, so I'll not be letting them touch it until everything is sorted ahead of time and agreed upon. If they don't want to work with me, I will request new dealer for service and they won't get their $10,000. They've already gotten to bill Toyota for two new sets of rear springs, clock spring, and timing cover reseal in the past.

Will continue to update as I progress. Hopefully, no horror stories to add.

I think that the new frame that came in is attached to the dealership, not the truck. So if you went somewhere else, the wait for parts would start over. Might be worth it if the dealer is really messing with you,but worth keeping in mind.

Don’t they have your truck? Why wouldn’t they want to sell you new parts. My service writer made a list of everything I wanted called me the next day with prices. We made a few changes when they had the frame and all parts they went ahead and did the swap. Called me when it was done.

Nope, mine was deemed 'safe to drive temporarily'. I'm glad too. If they had it, they'd have it torn apart already and I would have nothing to say about anything. I believe the new frame will have my VIN attached to it, so wouldn't think dealer specific unless they carve the numbers in themselves? I'm wanting to put OME suspenders on it while it's apart. New cab bushings also.

Got a response out of them today. I think I'll be able to work with them after reading. They came at me with a very reasonable offer to install the parts I want.

I am under the impression that they may like to make additional monies from the swap...incidentals and whatnot. Hope my bleeders aren't frozen up. I assume most folks don't know or care much about their vehicle and just jump for the 'new frame' carrot. I've had the truck 12 years now, done all maint & repairs myself other than warranty. Driven 3/4 across the Country in it a couple times and various other adventures...I am pretty well attached to it and know it from top to bottom. It is more than 'just a truck' to me. I plan to drive it another 10 years at least.

Picked truck up today, they put a new exhaust on from the converter back at cost. I'm happy with that.
Other than some steering wheel shake at highway speeds everything seems fine, I have yet to go under and look around.

I have steering wheel shake at 50-60 mph that I never had before my frame replacement and the dealer said it’s my over size tires 285/70 17  Didn’t do it before :(
