What is the purpose of the cup under the oil filter when it is changed?

The cup catches any spill draining from the filter into it's basin when it's removed.

Changed my front diff oil tonight. Front, rear, and transfer case now done. Don't know if or when they were done before I purchased the truck. I've got a baseline now. Rear was really clean. Front was the dirtiest. It was a bitch to get to compared to the other two so I wouldn't be surprised if the previous owner may have skipped it for that reason!

Baked the trans and engine in high temp hill climbs, did the extreme pin stripe mod (previously only had light pin stripe mod), dented the OEM diff skid on a rock, gouged the forged TRD rock warrior wheels on other rocks, scratched the windshield, tested the sliders by taking a good blow that would have otherwise been to the cab after slipping off a wet tree in a flash thunderstorm downpour (wasn’t in the forecast), but made it to an amazing ridge top campsite 30+ miles into the mountains with a 180 degree view for an epic camping trip.

Edit: further inspection, punctured the Diff skid and bent the oil pan skid.

Looks good. Have a link for the textured body panel tape you used? Thanks

I don't, sorry. I actually found it at a local hardware store after unsuccessful visits to three auto parts stores. Go figure.

No worries. Did a search and found several brands but liked the look of what you used.

That's precisely why I grabbed it. It has a rougher appearing (but doesn't feel rough/gritty like that non-skid tape) texture than what I had seen online and was shopping for.

And I opened it up at the store to feel it and threw away the packaging at the register once I realized it would work.

Some people attach a hose and run it to a drain pan.

    My approach is described below

Changed my oil today. I just clipped a Nitrile glove to the nipple with a clothespin.

I tried using clay bar on the entire truck, then wax after. Very intense process but it looks wonderful. Only complain and concern is it almost appears up close that the clay put weird streak Mark's into the paint that's whiter than the rest, like it wore through the clear coat? I have no idea, first time doing it, I had yellow little rust spots everywhere (or rail dust some people call it). Picture quality is bad cuz it's on a phone.20180730_200330.jpg

Installed my ACEkraut no drill plate bracket today. Fit and finish are excellent! Now to get some plugs to dress up the old mounting holes!

Today I swapped the front brakes on my 08 DC prerunner with lifted spindles and found that the upper caliper bolt on the driver side had been stripped out from over tightening. Lucky for me this is not my first rodeo and I found a bolt that was a smidge bigger and got it to recut treads. I will double check it in a few days but it did torque down. I also took off semi metallic junk pads and badly warped and grooved rotors and replaced them with powerstop slotted and drilled rotors with top end ceramic pads.
