maybe bigger wheels/ rims/ whatever you wanna call them and thinner tire walls will save some weight and reduce the bubble effect. Also anecdotal evidence suggests Pennzoil Platinum ultra gives a tiny boost in fuel economy over oem 5w30 Dino oil (according to my ultragauge).

I am always on the lookout for lighter wheels but will probably stick with stock tire size. The roads near my work are crap and that extra sidewall helps out.

I am going to stick with my Mobil 1 advanced fuel economy. I feel like it did help with fuel economy and I dont want to make anymore variables.

    Update

I changed the oil in my truck last night and added A S&B cold air intake to the truck. I also added bottle of chevron techron concentrate plus to the last fill up of the fuel tank before the oil change.

here are some numbers from my truck before I changed the oil. I will try to do this every time I fill up with gas from now on.

    417.7 miles on 16.454 gallons = 25.39mpg

    418.4 miles on 16.925 gallons = 24.72mpg

    421.9 miles on 16.671 gallons = 25.31mpg

    414 miles on 17.341 gallons = 23.87mpg

    409.7 miles on 17.058 gallons = 24.02mpg

    421.9 miles on 17.447 gallons = 24.18mpg

416.3 miles on 16.631 gallons = 25.03mpg (this was the last tank of fuel before my oil change and also had the chevron techron concentrate plus in it)

It's been a few months, was the intake worth it?

I have about 1500 miles left of data to collect but the preliminary results look like it didn’t hurt or help my mpg’s. Sounds good though

    Update

Just finished my testing with the cold air intake and averaged 24.65mpg. So in short my testing showed no fuel economy gain from a intake. It did sound pretty good however.

You are probably right with replacing the sport hood with a non sport one however I dont think I will be doing anymore testing. I have found out how to get 43mpg out of a Tacoma. I have replaced the drivetrain, body and interior with Lexus CT200h. With this mod you will get better gas mileage but with some drawbacks like that of you not having a truck anymore.
