Hi everyone. I’ve had my 2018 Tacoma SR5 Doublecab 4x4 since July 2. Stopped by the dealership to inquire about having them install a lift (for warranty purposes), and I was told they won’t touch it because a lift will change the height of the sensors in the grill (pedestrian, vehicle, etc., blah blah blah).
So I said “there must must be something I can do to increase the ride height because the TRD Pro sits higher that the SR5, And has the same sensors behind the grill”......
The only option they can offer is to put the TRD Pro wheel/tire combo, because they claim the two suspensions are the same but utilize different shocks.
Then he said “if you had purchased a 2017, I’d be happy to put as much lift as you could purchase because there aren’t any sensors to worry about”.
The dealership won’t even touch a leveling lift because of the sensors. Has anyone else run into this issue with their 2018 taco? I’m ready to give this one to my wife and go get something I can modify.

The dealer can recalibrate the sensors based on ride height.

If this is true, it sounds like I need to visit a different dealership. Thanks for the info.

Yes, you need to visit a different dealership. The sensors can be recalibrated. The dealership I've been getting my service done at has about 3-4 lifted tacos sitting in the showroom everytime I'm there.

Your mistake is the dealer you’ve chosen. Research how the sensors work and if they are adjustable. Then talk to a mechanic whom has your interest in mind. You could shut off the sensors and drive your truck like they’ve been driven for the past 50 years, as in you look where you are going. Just sayn. :)

Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind. It isn’t that I’ve chosen the wrong dealer, it happens to be the dealer I purchased the truck from, 3 weeks ago, therefore the first one I returned to. After hearing what the dealership said, I opted to get additional advice from the forum. I will indeed go to a different dealership to get this done.
**sidenote**If I wanted help from people assuming I don’t look where I’m going or can’t drive a vehicle without the modern technology I would’ve kept my Jeep and stayed in their forums since their biggest worry in life is what to do when a person doesn’t wave back to them on the street.

That’s why I wanted to ask others. Especially when the only thing the dealership could suggest was the TRD tire/wheel setup to achieve the lift I’m looking for

Jeep wave is the most annoying thing about owning a Jeep. You miss yours yet? I'd trade back today for mine.

Yes and no. I’m enjoying four doors and significantly better mpg’s and a much smoother ride but when all of this headache started with the lift, I was seriously ready to hand my wife the keys and have her drop me off at the Jeep lot.

    Update........
Unfortunately over the past few days I have spoken to every dealership within 75 miles of me and they’ve all said “we used to lift the 2018 for our customers but due to the sensors in the grill, we are no longer allowed to. For safety reasons, corporate won’t allow it”. Yes, I know the system can be turned off, but I guess for now it’s a tire/wheel package then I’ll wait until my warranty expires or Toyota addresses this issues and launches a recalibration for the sensors once a lift is installed since currently they’re all saying recalibration isn’t possible at this time. I still have the option of my wife taking the truck so I can buy something else‍♂️

I kept the stock struts/springs and all stock parts. If the truck has to go in for warranty work, it's a few hours to stock out the suspension. Piece of cake.

Hmm I have a 18 taco with a little lift. I did not change/adjust/ or recalibrated anything. All the sensors work fine too
