Have it in my mind to completely de-chrome my truck some day. I hate chrome especially when it's just a reflective finish on cheap plastic.

From what I understand it is the additional weight that is responsible for the cracks. The plastic can’t handle the strain especially with the cold temps. They seem to crack in similar areas on all the pics I have seen.

Sucks because it’s a nice looking grille, but not worth cracking the surround.

It’s the tight clearance between the grill and surround. When the extreme temperatures make the surround contract it then cracks at the weakest point or greatest concentration of stress.

The weight of the grille replacement is the other issue. Think about how light the factory piece of crap stock grille is compared to the metal grille. The surround was designed around a cheap plastic grille and not a metal one.

It’s not the grille persay it’s the added weight and the plastic shrinking and expanding with temps changes also. Maybe if the lighten it up that would alleviate these issues.

Better yet, I'd love to see a bolt on 4-runner front end for the Tacoma, made from the same materials the factory uses. The 4-runner looks downright evil from the front.

Any photos of this on your truck? I have a silver sport and cannot decide on what to do with the grille now that I have black wheels.

Agreed. This one's clearly photoshopped, but I like the idea.

    my build tread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/socal-no-shame-poser-build.513084/
Its the material. The expansion/contraction in cold temps that pops the surround. Is not a problem for most but a lot of reports of it happening like you mentioned. That would bum meout

I like the flush look better too. But i think the protrusion of the pro is less obvious on black trucks so i ordered one and will see. If not, its back to the derped factory grill.
