I'm looking at a new TRD Off Road. I'm a little hesitant because a few people I've talked to have said after 2015 the Tacoma has gone downhill. One of them is a mechanic at the local Toyota dealership.

Is there any reason to believe the new trucks should be avoided?

    Thanks

A good search of the 3rd Gen forum will help you research the issues and resolutions Toyota came up with. 2018s are the 3rd model year and it should be well sorted out by now. If you don't need all the capability of the Pro, I would skip the premium price it requires. My 2 cents.

The only reason not to get one is the MSRP. I really wanted to get one, and they can usually be had for less than the MSRP. My 2nd gen RC is enough Tacoma for me, at the moment. If I didn't have some form of Tacoma already, I'd probably buy one, or some variant of the 3rd gen.

They’re good trucks and the intital new model issues have been sorted out by now. In my opinion though I think the ‘12-‘15 model years not only look better but are better trucks with the proven 4.0

Might save you $10,000 if you find a good deal on one

    3rd Gens are ugly.

    I won’t buy a vehicle I don’t like the look of.

I've got 12,000 miles on my '17 OR and have had zero problems or complaints. If I had it to do over again I wouldn't hesitate for a minute. No car or truck is perfect for everyone so give it a good test drive and be sure it's a good fit for you.

If you don't need a pickup bed get a 4Runner off road model. A better made vehicle imo. If you need a pickup look at the 2015s

    Welcome!

Everyone has their opinions, and of course people will always argue whether 2nd or 3rd gen is better. Everyone defends their truck and says it is better than the other, but most people have complaints about their truck as well.

At the end of the day, it is still a Toyota truck. Toyota has proven for many years that they make reliable vehicles, and whether it is better or worse than the previous model, it is still the best new truck currently available.

Test drive it and make sure it is a good fit for you. If so, but it and enjoy it.
