RAM X-mount, my version.

I know there’s a few threads out there using RAM Ball products for a phone mount, and some vendors that have really nice no-drill options. However, if you’re willing to drill one 1/4” hole that you’ll never see, and want to save some money, consider this option I just did:

And obviously a 1/4”-20 bolt and washer, which I picked up at the local hardware store for $0.50

 

Did the exact same thing with mine. Only issue is I might put a bit of a backing plate below the plastic as when going down a really rough road it bounces a bit. But I agree, for the price, it was really easy to do.

I'd like to do something similar, except on the left side of the steering wheel. Any advice? Seems like the parts would be the same.

Thinking more about this - how solid is that? I feel like it would not handle bumps very well, would it benefit from a backer plate?

 

It definitely would, but there isn’t much space back there. I couldn’t even fit a washer. An aluminum bar would work, but I don’t know how much rigidity it would add. It wobbles a little, but it’s fine for my puposes. Too wobbly to use as a dash cam, at least the way I installed it.

 

Not sure! I did the right side simply because of easily the radio surrounds pops off.

 

The left side pops off just as easily. Held on by the same clips.
