Not identical in performance, Check out the ballistics data.

30-06 probably has more recoil with heavier loads.

    Similar ammo costs and availability.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
places i go and other i know are less than 150 yds. .270 is a pretty flat trajectory and unless you're using ballistic tips or something, won't mess the meat up too much. most are using bolt actions or semi-autos and i cant recall ever seeing a 30-30 around here that wasn't a lever action.

and the deer in SC are typically smaller and .308 or 30-06 is a bit of overkill in these parts.

+1 on the bolt gun vote. .308 is one of the most versatile cals out there. I've got a marlin in 45-70 that is stupid accurate for a levergun but I just like a bolt action and ill take a .308 over a 30-30 any day :crapstorm:

Its mostly a 30-30 thing... Its kind of like the McDonalds of rifles to me, anything it can do, basically every other acceptable deer hunting and larger caliber can do better. It's just super one dimensional to me and I would never recommend it as someone's only hunting rifle

lever is my next pick for a woods gun. but if you are looking for an accurate but cost effective bolt gun have you checked out the Thompson Center Compass? 5R rifling, adjustable trigger, full float barrel, threaded muzzle, detachable magazine, scope rail included, MOA guaranteed. $399 MSRP. Picked one up last year and shot my last deer with it and have been very happy.

Yeah I remember haha. .30 carbine is pretty cool. I shot a bobcat a few years back with a .327 mag. I was really hoping they would make an insert for a mosin nagant that would accept the .327 but the biggest one only goes up to the 32 h&r mag. I was gonna try and get my daughter to kill on with it but I may just borrow an ar15 for early gun season and see if I can get get on one

Yeah any centerfire is legal here. Like you can go out with a .25 acp if u want. Mag capacity is limited to 10 is all. Also last time I checked you could turkey hunt with a handgun as long as it was iron sights and mushrooming ammo

Used to be rifle or shotgun up north and shotgun only in the southern areas. Now it’s pretty much either state wide..

A little polishing of the ramp is recommended. I did mine myself and it’s a lot smoother now

we have shotgun counties n rifle counties, but its so thick where I hunt on the Eastern Shore, i usually drag the pump, instead of the 30-06?

the truth is, its easier to swing the 12 in the tight close shit that the "shore" offers, and I hunt. and the sabots, are super accurate....at least for me!!
