Lol. We all know at least one of those couples! Perfect metaphor.

My wife and I took our first long drive on the highway last weekend. Anytime it dropped into 4th and the engine started screaming, I found myself saying, "Ok truck. No need to go psycho again."

I just stated that they have been and continue to work on improvement to the transmission. You don't think my truck hung up in 4th gear with CC at 70mph? It did. But I got the update 1.5 years ago and it doesn't do it any more. I don't need to defend the Tacoma. I just know the software changes Toyota releases seem to fix the issues most people are noticing in here. Not everyone is aware that there are simple software updates that make major changes to the truck. Just like updating your phone or anything else. Bugs get worked out. Like I said in the other thread, you don't have a 3rd gen Tacoma anymore so you have no idea what the truck is like now. You are one person that had a sour experience and are in a very small minority. Sorry I hurt your feelings.

My truck is a 2018 I figured the bugs would be gone 3rd year? Toyota reflashed my truck 2 weeks ago? Same bug seems to be coming back. It’s my 7th Toyota, only one I’ve not liked. I want my 4.0 liter back, better power, drivability and even fuel economy. Don’t always believe the hype. I will never buy another new truck without putting it through all the paces. Scary thing is I drove 4 Tacoma’s before I ordered my 2018, though I had all the bases covered. I made a new check list for my next truck!-)

Too bad you don't have three pedals... you wouldn't think the 4.0 was anything special then!

Manual transmission, my friend. 3.5 in front of a manual is more powerful, more fuel efficient, and more drivable than a 4.0... because no gear hunting!

My redneck genes still love NASCAR H pattern where the difference is often the driver and not the computer controls.

That’s real driving and real racing. Like all over the road truckers, dragsters, nascar, Formula 1 (sequential manual), all motorcyclists professional and novice and most all professional drivers worldwide use a manual.

Most people don’t even know that fact because they have an automatic car of AT truck.

Have you driven a 3.5 auto? I did drive a pro in manual, it was ok. Mind you middle of winter and snowing. My buddy loves his 2014 4.0

I did in fact test drive an OR DCSB in auto... that's why I row a stick.

I also owned a 4.0 SR5 auto. Nice little motor for cruising, but would fall on it's face if you tried to tow anything over 65mph.

Yes, sir. I drive 4 vehicles primarily... my Tacoma, a 1965 Chevy C-10, a Sterling dump truck, and an International S1900. All are stick. All of our ambulances and fire apparatus at work are automatic. The fire trucks all have Allison transmissions and those are decent, but the ambulances always develop shift issues. Granted we're talking extreme driving conditions but still...

Fun little tid-bit: in Kansas, if you test for your CDL in an automatic then you are restricted to driving an automatic... a manual transmission is now a separate endorsement.

Michigan too. The rules changed not long before I took my driving test.
