Hi-lift can still be used with the wheel hooks... but youd have to bring a jackstand or something to set the truck down on to swap a tire out ... but you'd still have it in case you needed to use it as a winch or something...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be a smart ass.

 

Can still use it with stock tow hitch/ front recovery point to pull off of if you've got the winching attachments. Plus they make a thing that lifts by the wheel spokes, so no sliders needed

I've seen that done before, it just seems sketchy. I was thinking of grabbing the some the safe jack extensions and the T4R stock jack. I'm still learning on the whole Off-Roading thing and techniques so I'll gladly take and learn from everyone else so thanks @Sloth @Bastek @demo243. I've got a recovery strap, shackle, Shackle hitch; so I'm slowly piecing together a kit. Probably will never get to @Subway4X4's level but, I'll steal some of his tricks at least.

 

US, mere mortals, we could only hope and wish to get somewhere, anywhere close to what @Subway4X4 has to offer

 

Ive got the winch equipment for the hi lift since I venture out alone fairly often... but in reality the best thing is to just turn around before you need it... I have used the hi lift to lift the truck twice off the sliders, both on flat ground in a parking lot and yea... its a bit sketchy.... I always carry two 12" pieces of 2x6 in the truck for leveling it or using the bottle jack. Basically the hi lift was a $80 piece of last resort safety.

 

Last weekend "we" actually used a Hi-lift and lift mate wheel attachment in a mud pit, during winching/recovery so we could stack some rocks under the wheels of a t4r that was hang up on a big ass boulder. But... That was a very special situation

I'd be probably doing the same, which was causing my to consider a winch when I get a bumper but $$$

 

I feel like that is actually probably the most common use for a Hi Lift (outside of changing a tire on a very lifted mall crawler jeep or truck) and one of the uses where not much else could do the same thing

yea a winch would be much faster an easier to use... still contemplating a full winch bumper or a slim one or just a front hitch recovery bar and a winch craddle so it can be used front or back

 

LOL, no. @Arcticelf managed recovery and operated hi-lift, I helped with lift mate, @fatfurious2 operated the winch, and rest of "us" helped and stacked rocks. (if any of that makes sense... That would be great, lol)

There's always a hidden winch mount too. Unless you're Rock crawling not much need for a full bumper . Hidden mount just goes behind the stock bumper. You just need to cut out a hole for the fairlead

Kinda interesting how it all adds up... Winch, bigger battery, battery cage, and then minimum $500 for hidden winch mount, or add a couple hundred more for hybrid bumper or.....

waders would have been really nice. That shit was deep, and soupy. We're probably lucking @DZNUTS didn't make it farther before getting stuck...

 

It helps to have both. And a chain saw if you are going solo on adventures. I was on trail 20 last weekend and needed to use my winch, high lift, and chain saw to self recover off this:

Damn thing dented my rocker a tiny bit.

First pulled winch line, but there was no way my winch was going to pull me off that wedged setup.
