I have been trying for a month to get a quote for two vent boots to be replaced on my Daughters house. Late today I received a quote for $850.00 with a credit care or $ 695.00 CASH. Quote said that the total was what it was because of a steep roof charge.
Anybody ever had someone try and charge them a steep roof charge ?

Yea, I've heard of steep roofs causing larger quotes.

I got another company to come out yesterday and quoted it and fixed the roof cheaper than the first guy. And laughed when I told him about the other guy’s quote. Lesson learned

Hell. When I was in my 20's a 12:12 wouldn't bother me much at all.

Now I don't want to walk my 8:12 on my own home. I shingled my 6:12 shop building last year and didn't mind that too much (for the pitch).

Walking and working a steep roof is work. If the average person doesn't think so, let them get up on it. Especially if the drop on the bottom side is more than 15 foot or so. The high side of my roof is 20' or better. Things change when you are that high up.

9' ceilings upstairs and down. 8:12 roof.

OP could have also gotten a "no thank you" price.

Hell in my 20’s I would have fixed all of it. Now at 59 with bone cancer I can fall inside the house on carpet and it is game over.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
In my younger years a buddy called me up and said he had this sweet job he wanted me to help him with. It was something like an 18/12 pitch, we ended up making rope harnesses and tied off to our trucks on the other side of the roof with the rope run over the ridge and a couple kick plates run along the ridge to reduce chaffing on the rope. It went slick as hell until my buddy pissed off our third guy on the ground and we heard a truck start!

I want to , but the bone cancer statement won't let me.

I'm 36 now and what used to be normal now makes me uncomfortable. Maybe now it is because I have kids, maybe I'm just not the same after being out of the game for a while.

Anyway, steepness changes things, or the guy was really busy and didn't have the time unless you were willing to pay.

Everybody I called was busy because of all the rain. and quotes were all over the place. But the last guy I called was under everybody's price and he did the work while he was there to give the quote.
And yes Kids will make you rethink stuff. In Feb 2017 I was told I had 8 months to live. Now I am being told by my Dr. to make plans for the future. But they do not include me climbing on roofs

Never heard of a steep roof charge but every roofer I know takes the roof angle and height into consideration when figuring labor.
I guess calling it a steep roof charge was their way of explaining a higher than normal pricing.

Oh I get it, Just be honest about it when giving a quote. The repairs we needed where simple if I was young again I would have taken care of it myself.
