Im skipping past a lot of these in my searches. I see everywhere the 3.0 isnt worth anything in the taco and p/u. How do they perform with that motor? How does a 22r[e] perform? Wondering for all 4x4, not interested in anything 2wd.

From personal experience, the 22re is gutless, but tough and hardy. Just keep up on timing chain and it will run forever. Sure, it’s no powerhouse, but gets the job done, no frills.

A lot of people bitch that the 5th gen doesn't have enough HP but to me it's more than adequate for the size and weight of the vehicle. The 5th gen is much wider and heavier than previous models. Even with a lift, tires and heavy metal protection it still moves well although the gas mileage sucks.

I would not even think about going down to a 22re. Maybe if you are 18 and have no other options.

My 5th gen is just fine......no complaints here!!

22re in a Pickup with 5 speed manual transmission is a blast though........
