I drove home from work today. AC working great. Walked into the house, changed clothes, grabbed a little snack, then headed to the gym. I climbed in the truck and cranked on the AC (I live in Texas and it is hot as balls). it started rattling so bad that it actually caused me to panic for a split second. After I got home, I took out the cabin air filter as that is where the noise was coming from. It appears that the fan has cracked right on the top causing the fan to wobble and make all kinds of noise. Anyone else ran into this?

This is a 2016 TRD Sport 4x4 that has 15K miles on it.

My coworkers Camry did the same thing with about 100 miles left on the warranty. I haven't seen many people complaining about that issue.

Should be an easy fix for your dealer.

Yes, this has been reported by other members, not me but at least a couple.
I would recommend replacing or inspecting the cabin air filter every six months though

    Best of luck
    Cheers!

Just went thru the exact same thing this weekend on my 17DCOR. Took it to the dealer. Advisor says its a known problem and that they have a fix. It's a new motor with
a better design. Only problem is the new motor is on back order. I am going to pick up loaner in a little bit and find out just how long the back order will be. We have a
trip to Durango coming up in 10 days. I need the truck to haul the family and gear up there!

Update: Went to pick up loaner and was informed that the new blower motors had come in. Two hours later, I had my truck back.

Same happened to me in my 2016 at 5k miles. Part took a little while to get it. Fixed and everything is good since.

Just left the steal-ership, was told that it could be 2 weeks before they get the part.

I was also told that sometimes they will take the blower motor off of a truck on the lot, which, I am sure is how your "back ordered" part came in so fast. Problem with that is you might have gotten the same part and could break again.

My 2016 TRD blower came apart yesterday, sounding like 2 raccoons fighting, and took it to the dealer. He said this is the first time he heard of this (blower actually came apart in housing) but parts are on back order so this has probably happened a lot before. His words. Got a new loaner car but don't know when the part will come in yet. I hope it's not long. My truck is 12 months old and this is first thing to go wrong.
Good news-I got a new blower installed last week. I also told the mechanic about low fluid problems in rear diff posted on this forum. He checked it while they had my truck and the engine was cold. Glad to report fluid was right on the money.

There is another thread on here with many guys having the same issue, I think some guys were buying new ones from Rockauto to avoid the dealer and the factory fan.

mine started making a ticking noise at the 5K mark. Blower motor was replaced at the first service.... I'm at 34k now and the ticking is back.

2017 trd offroad double cab. 6300 miles. Heard rattling today when i started it and shortly after no air flow. Cheap piece of shit blower.

Update: come to think of it, ive been smelling what i thought was kids feet and sweat for a few months before this happened. Usually after i drove then turned off the car and short time later restarted it. Example picking up the kids from school or driving to the liquor store.

I have a 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport with 59000 miles and just experienced the same thing. It sounded like a spoon in the trash compactor. The week prior my roof started leaking from the cabin brake light. Both items were out of warranty because I drive so much for work. My dealer was helpful and replaced both items for free after I told how much of a piece of junk the truck it was. I have never experienced a new vehicle with so many problems. I called Toyota corporate tell them that this was my first Toyota and I have never had so many problems.

If I'm having this many problems at 59,000 miles, what other lemon parts should I be aware of?

I wouldn’t worry too much. My concern is the two problems you have were because of cheap parts and lack of quality control. I can live with a controlled leak/weep from the rear pumpkin, cheap paint and plastics, panels and tailgates that don’t line up, etc. but in South Texas a broken HVAC blower is a shut down situation for my kids in my vehicle. The same with the brake light leaking; mold and mildew are a health concern. Toyota needs to reevaluate where they want to count beans and cut costs where they do not affect the health of the driver and passengers. That is the place to invest money. Or even better, just put high quality parts all over the truck, have some people pay attention when the parts are being assembled, and pass the cost on to the consumer. We will pay for quality. History has proven this time and tone again.
