Hello Taco Peeps! I have a 99 Tacoma V6 3.4L 4x2. I'm trying to pin down an issue I've been having for a few weeks now. I try to do as much myself as I can. I just read several posts about 'Intermittent starting issues'. I recently replaced the 'Ignition Lock Cylinder', worked great for about a week, then started having trouble starting again. From what I've from you guys, seems like it may be the negative battery Cable, or starter solenoid contacts.

When I try to start it, I get one click, but doesn't turn over. Inside overhead light is on. I can jiggle the key several times, and try to start multiple times, then it finally starts. it seems very random.

Are the connections clean on the battery? Also make sure they are tightened. I'd wager it isn't a starter problem if it won't even turn over. Sounds to me like a bad connection somewhere. Or maybe your battery needs to be replaced. I'd check voltages too and make sure you're good there.

Anyway, welcome to TW! 1st gen is best gen. :D :burnrubber:

Thanks for the reply, keep them coming! My Battery is only a couple years old, I keep the connections clean. I will dbl check for tightness. I have been doing different things, to get it to start, I've noticed the last thing I've tried seems to be working, but odd. If I turn the steering wheel to lock it, before I get out, when I get back in the next morning to start, if I put the key in, turn it to ACC, then unlock the steering wheel, it's starting on the 1st try. I've done that last 3 days. Is there a connection between the steering wheel locking/unlocking, and the ignition lock cylinder?

I have replaced the Ignition Lock Cylinder, thought that was it, worked great and cranked 1st try, for a week or 2, then started not wanting to crank again...ugh. I checked the battery connections, they are clean and on tight. I started putting the steering wheel in lock, then turning key to ACC, unlock steering, then sometimes it would start. Now, I have steering in lock position, and I jiggle it back an forth 3 or 4 times, then unlock, and it's been starting 1st try again. This is driving me crazy, can't figure out what's causing that. What is the link/connection between the steering lock/unlock, and the ignition? Has anyone had this issue or similar?
