Thoughts on wheel spacers

Just put 32/11.50/15 tires on my truck, I have a slight rub on the frame when wheels turned all the way to lock. Thinking about wheel spacers. Thoughts?

 

How much rub? What kinda tires?

I had 255 85 16 mud terrains that rubbed like mad. I just kept turning to full lock for special occasion.

If it’s not horrible can you live with it?

 

If it’s a slight rub I’d hang in there.

I’m running 285/75/16’s and get rub at full lock. You get used to it.

 

Spacers help with frame rub but usually make it rub worse on the punch weld/ fender liner area. Pick your poison

 

What are the rest of your specs? lift, wheels etc?

 

Wheels: SCS F5’with 3.5 backspacing
Tires: Falken Wildpeak MT’s
Lift:OME with 882 springs, SPC UCA’s
Bumper: homemade with no winch.... yet

 

Do you chain smoke cigars? Your windshield looks ruff.

 

Hahha Nope, I removed the windshield wiper fluid reservoir and haven’t found a decent replacement

Wheel off-set is an important part of suspension design. Factory wheel off-set (the amount the center mounting portion of the wheel is displaced from the center of the wheel in a vertical plane) is designed to achieve the proper suspension and steering geometry. Wheel off-set also affects the loading of the inner and outer wheel bearings on the front hubs.
When you start messing with wheel off-set either by changing wheels or installing spacers, you start down a path of trying to fix everything else you've un-balanced in that design. One fix leads to other problems that then require more fixes and it just cascades.

The easiest way to avoid that cycle of problems is to keep the factory off-set to start with. That means there's a limit to how large the tires can be and still work with all of the related components.

The answer is: Don't use spacers and don't use wheels with of-sets that are different from factory wheel off sets.
