    Something TTC official?

Don't want to do it Thanksgiving weekend, but maybe weekend after, but I won't be working weekends all of December and I doubt people would want to do a trip the weekend before Thanksgiving?

How well have the aluminum skids held up on the 4R? (esp. the gas tank skid)

I want to go al for weight but that tank skid doesn't have any stiffening ribs and back edge isn't formed up so i question how much it might bend.

So far the 4R skids have been great. They haven't seen a whole lot of abuse yet though. At this year's Jambo a friend of ours didn't have a skid for her 4R tank and it punctured on a rock. The aluminum RCI tank skid has dog legs to mount it up to the frame for added rigidity. I'm sure they could bend on a really hard hit, but that could potentially happen with any skid.

So a thought i've had is to simply fasten a sheet of 1/4" UHMW onto the oem gas tank skid if i can get a good price on material. It's light weight and tough against punctures.

If i can do that for under $100 vs paying ~$400 for the aluminum skid, do you think it's worth trying?

It sounds similar to the Taco OR skid. Better than nothing, and mine has held up fine so far.

Sure, it's worth trying. I remember her stock skid was beat to hell... at least the UHMW would help a little. I don't know if it would offer better protection than an aftermarket skid, but it's definitely better than nothing other than stock.

    Nope.

That is my next trip and I have a lot of maintenance items to handle before then as well.

Not sure if @SMKYTXN and Trail Toys makes a skid for the T4R yet but I run his UHMW skid and have zero complaints.

I'm mocking one up for the new runners at the moment. Just figuring out the mounting points that make sense.
