I just did it...but in a simpler fashion. I "tweaked my ledge a bit with a soft hammer, it goes back easily enough. I then foamed and blueskinned (think tar paper but very similar to original dynomat) the entire enclosure dead and sealed. I gasketed the top plate and if I was willing...I COULD go back to stock and no one would be the wiser. I used to Earthquake sws 8xi (2 ohm) subs because I really wanted to try them. Results? Fat, quick bass that blends well, from snoop dogg to Jazz...its brilliant and unseen.

Took about 5 hours, but I sound deadened the rest of the floor and back wall while I was at it. I didn't care too much about looks, as you can see, but it could easily be made nice quickly. I used the bin as a template and just made it a bit "longer" on each end.

In the past I made a few baffle boards (the top) for people looking to roll their own but I got rid of the template last time I moved so I'd have to start from scratch. So yeah, it would be a VERY expensive endeavor for anyone who wanted one now. The good news is you guys have photographic proof of what I've done already so it would likely be better to go to a local car audio shop and have them copy it. :D

Do you have any pics of the bin metal being cut? Not sure what you mean by bin metal.

Why didn't you use some sound deadening material on the inside of the cab? or in the tub part under the seat?

Could you tell me or direct me to a post that explains sealing the top board to the under seat tub?

I keep coming back over and over to this thread and some of the other posts. Thinking about pulling the trigger and doing 2 JL W7 8s underneath the rear seat.

I'm also going to deaden my doors and swap out the door speakers tonight, unlikely I'll have time to get my tweeters into the sail panels though.

The door tweeters take some measuring, but here are mine

Mock up your sub before building anything, 10s wont fit (some shallow mount may), some 8s will hit the underside of the seat with the surround.

Yes a company has finally made something for under the seat for 3rd gens.

Please pardon my revival of an old thread but as this appears as a top result in image searches in Google, pinterest, etc. I figured adding new information about a product that seems to have a demand in our Taco community that I'd post this here to help others find it. It is made by ProFit Enclosures was also able to find it for a discounted price on DownforSoundShop.

Someone posted their sub box awhile back, the big problem we all have with it is that its $850 and doesnt include subs.

I'm a double post failure then :smack:

I agree, the price has kept me from just going ahead on a whim and purchasing it to tryout the 2 - 6.5" sub setup, but, to go to a shop and ask them for a custom fiberglass box build that'll be this big with a tuned port, really I don't think you'd save that much from what Profit is offering plus it's a known entity of what you'll get vs what the builder does, the time it takes, and for your vehicle to be at a sound shop. I really wish there were different sub cut out options ( i.e. 3 or 4 6.5" 's or 2 8" 's, sealed or ported box). I'll ask the company if they'll ship the box without any holes pre-cut.

    The JL stealth boxes included subs; 2nd gen is a 2 - 10" tw3's setup for $850 and 3rd gen 1 - 10" tw3 for $750.

This right here is the big problem with the profit box. If it came with subs that had a value around the JL ($330) then I could see it being worth the price. But yes, to have a custom fiberglass box would cost a pretty penny. Ive built a few my self and they are not too hard to build, just takes time.
