I ain’t your brah, bro or brother. Just explaining to you the difference in the fans. Which could possibly translate to his running a little bit warmer in stand still traffic for a couple hours.

Because it is a viscous fan clutch that engages and dis engages at certain temps. It is always “spinning” though.

There are a few variable though. He stated it went back down. Not sure how long after. If it was an air pocket it can easily give a higher reading. I wouldn’t of been worried, especially still being under warranty, fk it

It’s a thermistor. Should read no matter what. Not saying as soon as an air pocket hits it it’s going to give the exact temp at that given second. It should gradually climb. So if that air pocket just so happens to be stuck where the sensor is, in theory, it should over a period of time give an accurate reading of the temperature of that air pocket. I don’t really suspect it was air though or he would of been having problems since day one, or whenever the cooling system was last messed around with. Probably his thermostat sticking

Could be the spring or the capsule or whatever is inside the mechanism. More than likely the latter of the two.
didn’t mean it in that way. Just meant it’s always gathering a reading, however it won’t show a rapid change in a tenpature offer a very short period of time.

Because the principal is all the same. If it can be done in a 3rd world poorly lit shed it can definitely be done in your garage.

For the record I fat fingered the tab and posted the wrong video. Correct video is now in original post.

Most likely. It was the one condition missing from the OP’s normal commute.

Either could be the case. However sitting on hot pavement, eating the hot exhaust of the car in front of it and in 100* weather. I would still venture to guess air flow is the culprit. Just not enough thermal transfer.

Every situation is different. I don't see how what someone towed, or what they have ever done with a different truck being relevant to OP's situation. Sitting in 100 degree heat in traffic, on blacktop that is certainly much , much hotter while running the ac for hours is a pretty unusual spot to find oneself in. Even driving in hotter weather is different than idling.
The AC in a Tacoma is notoriously weak at idle, there are many threads on this subject already. I don't see that as strange in this situation either.
I'd still get it checked, but I don't see this as being the big deal others do. I do wonder if the fan clutch is working properly
