Hey Monte quick question. I understand that the big 3 is mostly made out of 0 gauge but I don’t want to buy it at this time. I want to use the 2 gauge I have. Would the 2 gauge hold me by until I get the 0. Reason I’m asking is because I’m installing a

$900 x-a90v 5-channel power density amplifier w ID

x-a90v alpine amp. I want to beef up the wiring better then what I have now.

 

the gauge is really important for your amp draw and how long the cable is.



Since that is almost a 1000w amp. Its safe to say your fine to use that cable easily. If you're planning on running other things off that cable then you might want to do some math.

 

Just the amp. Thanks. I’m also going to make the alternator to pos and both grounds out of the 2 gauge wire.

 

2ga will be more than enough for that job as well. No need to get 0 gauge. Most due 4ga for that anyways.

 

To reinforce what Monte said, and for others thinking along similar lines, use this formula to find how many amps you have to carry on the wire. Then the chart will tell you the maximun number of feet (length) the wire can safely be at that amp load. Amps=Watts/volts

In this case, we want to convert 1000 watts to the amp load using a 12 volt environment. So the math would be 1000/12= 83.333. So If I use 4 gauge wire, how many feet of wire can I safely use for my 83 amp load? The answer is 22 feet max. The chart also shows that 2 gauge has way more capacity that I require at the moment unless my cable run is a lot more than 22 feet.

 

Me too. Much as I enjoy Igor. I hate driving him on the dirt since Frankenstein just flies over stuff. Be a while though sadly. Need a place to perform surgery and I don't have that right now.

 

Sure but with the amount of work I want to do, it would be an all winter make over more or less. I have a garage but it is super small. I don't think Frank would fit through the door.

If I hadn't moved and still had the shop, Id be knee deep in parts and welding.

Oh well. Im sure I'll be moving again next year hopefully more permanent. Hoping for a raise with a new contract so that'll help.

Yeah if I couldn't work where I do Colorado or Boise or Seattle would likely be my top choices.

But hoping I don't have e to move far again for a while.

 

Also no where near as cool of studios..or music scene. Kind of a requirement for me haha
