My 2014 OR has ~50k miles and the original Rugged Trails are just about due for replacement. Looking for opinions on my dilemma...

1 - BFG KO2s. I dont offroad beyond the occasional dirt road, but they look cool. Im a big fan of solid white lettering too.

    2. - Michelin LTX M/S2s - As i mentioned, i dont drive offroad much at all and these seem to be pretty well praised as one of the best road tire choices. They dont look as cool though.

Which will be a closer ride to what Im used to with the "Rugged Fails"?

    Thanks

Michelin are much closer to rugged fails. They actually do pretty good offroad, amazing on the pavement. But like you said they don't look cool. And every set of bfgs ive had starts to crack after about 3 yrs

Out of the 2 you mentioned, id go with the KO2s. I had them before and they looked good and lasted a while with regular rotations.

However, I switched to Falken Wildpeaks and love them. They are aggressive, but are also quiet and easier on the wallet. That may not be a problem for you, but it helps.

    Many mods to come.
I’m in the same situation I’m really leaning toward ko2s however my dad had Michelin Ltx MS on his 2002 tacoma and said they were great tires but we recently rode in a friends jeep with ko2s and we’re surprised at how quiet the tires were. My dad said they were nearly as comfortable as the Michelin’s he has on his tacoma! Just my .02.

DOn't mean to hijack, but since it is so much on topic, I was thinking of both these tires and a Tirerack salesman said that while I'd be happy with both, I went with the KO2s. They will be here tomorrow. However, I asked a specific question - are these good enough on wet pavement and snow. Not as a dedicated snow tire, but one that can handle the occasional 5-10 incher we get around here with roads quickly plowed. He said no problem for either, but then I see endless contradictory reviews - they are great on snow, they suck on snow, they are great in rain, they suck in rain. Some people are commenting on older KO, some are not. It's enough to give a guy indigestion. Anyone have direct experience with KO2 in snow and rain?

I vote m/s2. If you dont offroad much, these will serve you well, and i can guarantee theyll last longer than the ko2. Ive had sets that last well over 80k miles before needing replacement. If you want a tire that looks cooler, ko2 is probably the better choice, but all terrains are known to have a shorter life span than a dedicated road tire like the michelins

I've had 6 sets of bfg, 2 original, 2ko and now ko2. 31 up to 35 in size. They are a great all around tire but are not great at any one thing. Michelin ive run also but never on a lighter rig like a tacoma, however the are the best highway tire dry or wet period. They lasted almost 50k on my f350 while KO went almost 40k. Bfg's have always been great in the snow but a few years back I tried a set of duratrac and was amazed at snow and ice traction. They are the best snow tire I've used. That being said they are not great on the highway, need to be rotated religiously and are kinda noisy. Wet traction is close to bfg but the wear out much faster. I will never buy another set of falken or nitto tires due to the bad experience I had with both. You won't be disappointed with the bfg, I will recommend doing the chalk test for psi though. Right now my truck likes 30 front/26 rear on load e 285s

Dude, you are the best person of the internet for summer for sure! Thanks! One last dumb question to show I am still a needy little SOB. You said the Duratrac are similar, but are the KO2 okay in rain?

Ko2 do well in the rain as long as you don't go too wide 31x10.5, 265/75 and 285/75 did fine. I did have a set of 35x12.5 on a 85 Toyota truck and they didn't do as well. I'm guessing too wide of tire on a light truck

I had Michelin LTX2 on my Super Duty.
Surprising tire off road (got me out of Death Box Hollow, UT; during a snow-rain storm - snain)
    Outstanding on the highway.
Just replaced my stock goodyears with a size up (265/75/16) set of Ko2.
I am surprised at how quiet they are on the highway. And going from a SL to an E load, they still feel really compient. As expected way better grip off-road.

I have two sets of wheels. One one set I have the Michelin’s. On the other I have Duratracs. The Michelin’s I use for 8 months of the year because they turn hard as rock when the temperatures drop. A few degrees above freezing and I know I will slide if I brake too hard. That’s when the softer rubber Duratracs come out until winter is over.

Looks great, a lot like my 2015 white access cab.

FYI I bought wheels and these tires from Tirerack. Everything was fine, but get this. They shipped the tires mounted on the rims... at 85 PSI!!!
