Meh. I’m not a fan of icon shocks, or really anything of them. But I actually like their spring options. They ride will and it’s cool that you can adjust them. Probably the only thing icon I could ever see my self buying. Yeah Deaver makes a good spring, but not everyone is willing to figure out a custom pack and put that time in. Not everyone is trying to make their stock cab/frame pickup truck into a “race truck” so I think these fit the bill for a lot of people lol.

It's an add a leaf, you can get them for any leaf pack. Icon is just packaging them for you ahead of time.

I have a set of RXTs en route to me at the moment. I got the stage 9 kit. I can post up results if I ever get around to installing them.

Looks like I will have a new to me mtn bike on Friday. All I have left from my previous years of riding is the helmet, gloves, shoes, and pump. Any local places that sell some cloths/gear that is worth the visit. Can do online but like support local if I can.

When I was originally looking for leaf packs, two separate well known vendors on this site both told me that if I went with U402’s which was my original plan that they weren’t designed for an add-a-leaf after the fact.

Maybe they were both full of crap I dunno?

Wel the u402, already add 2-3 inches and support a few hundred more lbs of weight, aal would try to make it what a 4-5inch lift then at that point?

The U402’s come in three different options for 300-400 lbs extra, 500-700 and 700+.

I wanted to start with the stage 2 and potentially change to the stage 3 later on and I was told not an option.

    So I looked elsewhere.

When any company makes a leaf pack, that pack is all built and arched to fit exact with its mates in that specific pack. If you took two new of the same packs apart and traded a few leafs from one another, technically they wouldn't perform as well. So them saying you can't add a leaf later on is somewhat correct. The pack would no longer function exactly as designed. And the longer between new and adding the leaf, the further from perfect they will be. Same goes for the new rtx packs. Your evolving build that has you switch from stage 1 to stage 3 after 2 years is no different than running 402's and then calling deaver to make you an add a leaf down the road.

I have plenty of tech T's that I can use but the shorts with pads is a must for the family jewels. Maybe seat tech has gotten better.

I live almost across the street from REI but will not purchase anything there again. I think there is a Performance Bike at Kyrene/Ray that I might check out. Don't need much but want to browse all the new gear!

My guess is that the 700+ pack probably uses different/ thicker leafs than the other two options. My previous statement was more a generalization about leafs. I do not know the specifics of these packs. That being said, if you ran the 500-700 pack and then needed more carrying capacity, they will make you custom add a leafs that would work. I'm guessing they meant you couldn't upgrade to the other pack because of thicker leaves or something like that. But who the hell is driving around with 700lbs+ in the bed of a Tacoma constantly?

But isn’t that kind of the point? I assume Icon did their homework to design a pack that would have a predictable spring rate with the addition or removal of the add-a-leafs as a modular pack whereas the U402’s are designed for their stock configuration and that’s it?

Doesn’t really matter, I’ve been happy with the RXT’s. I will say that I ran them in configuration 3 right off the bat and between the bed rack and rear plate bumper and some other crap in the bed, once I add a RTT in a year or two I’ll need something that can handle more weight than what the Icon’s can provide so I’ll revisit Deaver’s at that point in time.
