I have ext. travel Fox 2.5 C/O's. I'm wanting to remove the 13" springs & put on 14" 650lb. springs. When I droop my front suspension, the measurement between where the bottom of the spring sits & the bottom of the top 'plate' that the adjustment ring adjusts up to measures 15.25". The adjustment ring is .5" so this span measures 14.75". My new spring is exactly 14" tall.
What I'm thinking is drooping my suspension then loosening the adjustment collar all the way up. Theoretically this will relieve 100% of the pressure on the 13" spring. I can then remove the entire C/O, remove the spring, install the 14" spring, start the adjustment collar down a few turns then reinstall. Adjust for proper height after installed.
    Why would this not work?

This seems to be an easy, simple & basic way to swap my springs. If it's this easy, why doesn't everybody else just do it this way? I've adjusted the collar multiple times, easily, to change my ride height as I've added armor so loosening the collar is a non-issue.

(I'm trying to avoid having to find a spring compressor machine)

I believe @abqnurse80 changed his own springs and may have some insight.
    Interested in your findings.

Does that really measure 14.75 at full drop? Would like to see a picture of that measurement!! Well yes, I have done it, several times, own a nice set of spring compressors that I got through @HeadStrong Off-Road !! Why your method won't work: the bottom spring perch has hidden within, two retaining clips. The spring must be compressed so you can move the perch up, taking out the retaining clips, so you can then slide off the perch, and then compressed spring. There is no there way. I don't think there is 14.75 in there with the ring on at all, therefore, the spring must be shortened compressed!! Additionally, spring compressors you get from AutoZone, harbor etc might not work with the larger 2.5 shock body. I've heard of it being done, but I was going to try with an AutoZone set once before, and it felt like it was going to be super dangerous. The ones I have http://www.spcalignment.com/index.p...part_description&pid=40260&Submit_form=Submit

Now, on your 600lb springs, how much preload you running for what lift currently?? I've had extensive talks with Ryan at accutune @*TRD* and discovered that more preload, max 2 inches, would be softer than a 14 inch 650lb spring in my case. I have the 650 14 spring in my garage, awating my time for armor. I hope that helps some, the struggle is real

It measures 12.25" @ resting height & I have 3" droop = 15.25. Do you have a write-up on how to disassemble the C/O? Thanks.

Hey @MolonLabeTaco , didn't ever make a write up, probably just should have!!! First if all it does help to reduce all your preload once the shocks are off, not necessary, but gives you more room for the spring compressor in there. Again, I can't express the importance of a quality spring compressor, headstrong got me a good deal on the one I mentioned. Compressors go one opposite sides, compressing equally until you can move that bottom pearch up, and then get those retaining clips out that are held together with a flimsy o ring. Mine was sliced, and now I don't even bother with it. Once the spring is uncompressed, the pressure on the pearch against the clips holds it in place. Can kind of get an idea from the following threads

    https://www.titantalk.com/forums/ti...r-how-remove-swap-springs.html#/topics/131421

    http://www.offroad-engineering.com/howtoinspon2.html

Just don't get carried away with an impact, keep number of turns on each compressor the same, and it's not too bad.. when you go this route, would gladly chat and walk you through it if you would like!! Where in N Tx you at?? I'm up in Albuquerque if you ever make it around these parts!!

I'm south of Dallas so a looooong ways from you! I've used spring compressors before but I've never taken a Fox C/O apart so I wasn't sure what that consisted of. I'll check your links. Thanks!

It'll make sense one you start compressing that spring. Like I said, that little I ring that holds the retaining clips in, was already toast on mine, so I just omiited it!!! Good luck man!!!

I went out of town & just got back. The day before I left, my phone shit the bed & I had no email access or passwords so I couldn't respond on here!
I haven't swapped them yet but last night I did measure. 3" droop doesn't equate to the C/O extending 3". It actually only extends to 13.25", which isn't enough.
To answer my own thread title question:
No, I'm not understanding this correctly!:anonymous:

Hmmm, yeah, seem to remember similar numbers when I had my 650s on. But now that I got revalved, front is pretty good on the 600lb. If I ever add weight, I've got the 650s though.
