I've read maximum wheel widths on different sites saying 8"-9"? What say y'all? I just got a new set of 17"x9".

I would go to the manufacturers website and see what it says. If it’s not listed, email them. They’re the only ones who can definitively say.

Their website gives a width range of 7-8.5". Would a 9" wheel really hurt anything?

If you air down and go off road then yes, it will. Much easier to roll a bead when the tire is stretched.

I mean most 265/70r17s are approved up to 9", I don't see why a wider tire would have a problem.

    KO2s are 7”-8” Cooper AT3 are 7”-9” Grabber AT2 are 7”-8”

(Tires picked at random as a reference)

Every tire varies based on how they’re made and what the manufacturer deems acceptable, so I’d only go off of what hankook says.

Well you’ll never see me doing wheeling like that. It’s my dd and repairs get expensive.

If you never air down, then you’ll be alright. Some tire shops may give you a hard time though about mounting on top wide a wheel, but that’s about it.
