Google oil filters and look at all the break down write ups regarding oil filters, I have yet to find one where fram was considered good.

I used Fram on both of my Honda's for 9 years never had an issue with them, but thats not saying that there were problems with them, my problem now is how do you get your hand up there to remove the dam thing?

+1. It's a high quality oil filter that is super easy to remove.

This may be an obvious answer, but here I go anyway:

I stopped by the Toyota dealer yesterday to pick up Oil filters for my planned change today. The counter clerk seemed to have some problems figuring out which filter I needed for my 2010 Access Cab with 2.7L manual transmission Tacoma. But finally decided and sold me two 90915-YZZG1 for less than $9. Seemed ok to me.

This morning when I pulled the original filter off, the part number is 90915-YZZD1. This looks the same to me, but I am a little nervous, so I called the parts counter and they told me the G1 is a supercede of the D1, and all is well.

Any confirmation would be welcome. Thanks

I've never had a problem with any oil filter in over 30 years of driving. I think the important thing is to change them often.

I'm fairly certain that all Toyota brand Tacoma oil filters are interchangeable. If you look at aftermarket filters, ALL Tacomas use the same one. For example, an AC Delco PF53 will fit every Tacoma engine. Bottom line is, you should be fine with the filter they sold you.

Since posting I found a Toyota Filter Application .pdf that showed the YZZG1 in the table for Tacoma, and in the footnotes declared YZZD1 as an equivalent. Anyway, it's installed, as is 6 q of Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20 synthetic. I will watch my mpg's and my garage floor for drips.

    Thanks for your quick reply!

+1. Wix are very good filters. They are also sold by Napa as Napa Gold filters.

I can't believe no one mentioned this but...

Despite your preferences... the 4.0L v6 requires an anti-drain-back valve in the oil filter since its' a top mounted upside down filter. This prevents the unfiltered oil from draining back when the engine is shut off.

Personally I use the K&N oil filters. High flow, still very good filtration, and the 1" nut welded on makes it extremely easy to take off. Also I live 35mi from the nearest dealer when Autozone is about 1.5mi from my house.

The K&N is a great filter. It filters down to 10 microns and is very easy to get on and off. Most aftermarket oil filters now have the anti-drain-back valve in them and can be used on both engines. However, you bring up a good point. Do both Toyota brand filters have the valve?
