First of all I'm a tech and work at a shop so I get things 10% over cost and install is me"free"

I need a lift and tires!

The pis are of the truck now with stock suspension, wheels and tires. I do have 1.5" wheel spacers installed "synergy hub centric". I'm thinking that the 285 tires won't be a problem with either lift choice, due to the spacers. Let me know if you think they will rub.

Tire choice is one of these. BFG KO2... 265/75/16 or 285/75/16

Suspension will be ... Rough Country 3 inch or MaxTrac MaxPro 2.5

I'm not a crazy off roader. 90% driving is back and forth to work.

Which combo would you choose? Or other Ideas are welcome.

neither of those lifts..... there are better lifts for the money

go Bilstein 5100s for like $40 more

and I would go Falken Wild Peak AT3w tires... cheaper and seem to last longer and perform similar (if not better) than the KO2s

and spend the other $500 on fun stuff :)

Be aware that these trucks will vibrate from the left front axle until upgraded if you lift it more than 2 inches. Plan on that repair to be around 300$ installed, you can do it yourself but you need a special tool.

    https://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-8536125-toyota-8-clamshell-bushing-eliminates-needle-bearing.html

The 285's will rub and you'll have excessive positive camber in the front and very low caster, so a set of control arms will help with alignment after the lift is done.

    https://bilsteinlifts.com/shop/toyo...ng-upper-control-arms-for-2005-toyota-tacoma/

You want 3" you wont get that with 5100's and they will ride like garbage at full spring pre-load. Spacers just have a bad rap around here because they don't compress properly, but I've seen more fancy coil overs blown than I have stock struts with spacers on.

5100's use c clips that preload the spring, they are a better shock for sure, but preload means major sacrifice in ride quality.

I love the look of the ko2 sidewalls. Are the falkens as aggressive in person?

I second what @Me. Projekt recommended. I may be going 5100s with ome could. I love my at3ws in 265/75/16 too.

Day I got them mounted on stock suspension. I have more pictures in the Flickr link in my sig. I just don’t have a god enough signal to upload right now.

They are a better tire but aren't as aggressive.

KO2's and Duratracs are the most aggressive non-mud-terrain tires. They share issues with M/T tires like noise and balancing.

Toyo AT2, Falken Wildpeak and Nitto Terras are all more tame for city driving and better quality all around.

yea they are really nice in person.... here is a vid that sold me:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ot4S5JYyuEY

and a 55k mile treadwear warranty is hard to beat

such a solid looking truck... it's got such a subtle but aggressive look!

also, to play devils advocate to what Bishop said.... not ALL trucks have needle bearing issues

I've personally lifted 2 3rd gens with the Bilstein kits and never had a single vibration issue

I think I'm going to do either these tires in 285 or go with the Falken Wild Peak MTs (the classic decision between AT and MT) haha

I think you are right with the cost savings of the Falkens. So... can I fit the 285's with just a lift from Marie? Also what do you guys think of the wheel spacers? I don't know about performance but they sure do look good.

Oh will the 285/75/16 fit the stock wheel? Due to the width?

Vinyl. Looks great and I can always take it off. Should last 4-5 years plus they sent me extra just in case they get knicked or scratched. I love it a lot!

Bilstien lifts are usually only 1.5 to 2 inches, so its less likely but we got to the point where my dealer starting installing them on all of lifts. I was mainly referring to the 3 inch lift.

I would only install the bushing if it vibed after a test drive form a billy lift. I usually can't stand driving maxed out 5100s, my head actually bounced off the roof of a 4runner that I did once.
